Professor Yuri

Veteran of more armed conflicts than most nations' armies, Professor Yuri teaches the Combat/P.E. class at Houndsmoth Manor. Covered head-to-toe in scar tissue, Yuri is an aggressive instructor whose direct methods and silent demeanor intimidate his students and even a few of the other professors.

During Houndsmoth:

Yuri teaches his students about all forms of hand-to-hand combat, firearms, disarming explosives, and battlefield tactics with those who've been picked as military personnel, professional athletes or mercenaries by Mr. Houndsmoth.

Yuri's mindset represents the development of the "killer instinct": an indomitable spirit made to overcome adversity, achieve greatness, and defeat your opponents no matter the cost.

The practical information and tools are an important part of the class. However, Yuri's primary goal is to mold this "killer instinct" into his students.

Activities in the class include full contact sparring, shooting firearms at the gun range, simulated squad tactics in their paintball course & other units one would find in a typical P.E class.

The capstone of the course is completing Yuri's brutal obstacle course known as "The Warrior's Gauntlet." Upon completion, the winner would be exempt from any new course work. Failure to complete it would result in the loser starting the program back to day one while having to catch back up to their other classmates.

Silas Yamane would attempt to complete "The Warrior's Gauntlet" to get out of Yuri's class. He would end up breaking his leg and spend several weeks with Professor Serena as her patient and as her assistant in Season 1.

Needless to say, most of Yuri's students are either dangerously unstable or become so over the course of the class. And he encourages this behavior by showing favoritism to his deadliest/most dangerous students.

This cycle would remain until Headmistress Valentine during Season 2 would take away the brutal nature of Yuri's "survival of the fittest" class and turn it into a "participation award" class. Everyone's a winner and no one needs to work hard or achieve anything.

This also includes dismantles "The Warrior's Gauntlet" along with the plaque with all the names of those who completed the course prior. Yuri defends the course tooth-and-nail until the remaining professors pull him away.
