Khorinis (Island)
Khorinis is an island in the Wide Seas named after the main city on the island. Its mountain ranges separate several valleys on the island. Although it must have been inhabited by people at some point, as the ruins of Jharkendar attest, it was (re-)discovered by the Kingdom of Myrtana in the 1341, while they were at war with the Kingdom of Gotha. This turned out to be their rescue as they soon discovered large deposits of magic ore on the island. This ore allowed them to smith incredible weapons that ensured their military victory. Nevertheless, the Myrtanians were forced to battle the native orcs residing on the island. This resulted in enslaved orcs working parts of the Magic Ore mines found on the island.
In the years of its colonization, the Myrtanians, and especially the Chantry of Fire, used extensive resources to develop the island. A city was founded, named [Khorinis, and a monastery to house the Mages of Innos who came along (now known as the [Monastery of Fire). In the region where the main deposits of magic ore are found, called the Valley of Mines, they constructed a castle and another settlement, called the Old Camp. These were needed to protect the population against the orcs that were holed up in the mountains.
Khorinis is a varied island with arid mountain sides, swamps, lush forests and even icy regions.
