The Jealous Gods' War

The Jealous Gods' War was a celestial war among Asmodeus and Trithereon that forever changed Human-Elf relations on Mystara and the physical shape of the continent itself.  Over the course of three thousand years, hundreds of millions of lives were lost to war, religious persecution, and ethnic cleansing, but with little progress made by either side.   In a desparate gamble to force peace, Ondra decimated both armies in a massive, cataclysmic attack during the Battle of Dragons. The aftermath have been labeled Ondra's Remorse and forever cemented in Mystara's history.

The Conflict

Prelude

According to legend, two of the youngest gods, Trithereon and Asmodeus, fell in love with Mylanta. Even after Mylanta deflected their advances, they declared war on each other, using their mortal worshippers as proxies. Humans rallied to Asmodeus, while Elves flocked to Trithereon.   Trithereon called on his twin sister, Ondra, to support him, but she favored peace. The other gods were likewise pressed to take sides. Umberlee sided with Trithereon and Tempus with Asmodeus, with Lyssa playing both sides according to her whim. Ondra, Kord, Parnassus, and Mylanta remained neutral.

Outcome

Asmodeus and Trithereon made peace, as did Humans and Elves. Ondra vanished from the mortal and celestial realms.

Aftermath

Cumbria suffered the greatest losses and the Empire never recovered. Its former colony of Tarant was transformed into the wasteland known today as Ondra's Remorse.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Ondra's Remorse remains a wasteland and ships give the eastern coast a wide berth, often preferring to take longer routes around the west coast than pass by the region.   The animosity between Humans and Elves persists, though to a far lesser degree than before.   Ondra remains silent, even to her most faithful disciples.
