Loremaster

The Loremaster is an individual or group of individuals who are in charge of managing and controlling a temple-library of Cognitiosis as well as being the political representatives of the Custodis Pansophical in a city. Their power depends on the size of their library, and its importance where it is located. In each library there an be one or multiple Loremasters, each in charge of a specific area of the library, or specific duties of the church they need to do. For example in a large library there could be one Loremaster in charge of the open section, one in charge of the Light and Medium restricted areas, one in charge of the High restriction areas who also talks with the Inquisition and other churches and organisations, and another who interacts with the broader politics, attending events and representing the temple in the royal court.

There are two ways of advancing as a loremaster, one is within the same temple, and the other is within the hierarchy itself. Within the temple, if there are multiple loremasters who are in charge, the higher rank is determined by seniority, which also leads to more authority being given to more important and older individuals with more experience in the different positions and with different outside factions. In the church the only official way to advance is to become a High Loremaster. However, the only ones who can attain that position are the Loremaster serving in the temple in the Empire Capitol of Exelnar, where the High Loremaster is located. For more details see High Loremaster.

Qualifications

A high degree of knowledge about the library, a high level of literacy and an understanding of the worship of Cognitiosis.

Requirements

To become a loremaster, one must first be a Keeper in the library in question, and either be in high regards of the loremaster in charge, or be liked by the rest of the loremasters in charge once a position becomes empty.

Appointment

A loremaster is appointed at the temple he will serve by either the other loremasters he will serve with, or alternatively the ruling noble of the city, if there is only one loremaster in the temple.

Duties

The duties of a loremaster are to represent the Custodis Pansophical and its interests in the local politics, as well as organize the Keepers and appoint them, ensuring that the library remains safe and slowly growing in its contents and making sure that any and all secrets remain safe, and are only used by those with the empires best interest in mind. The latter however has many times been used as a political tool to coerce the other churches or nobles to do certain things with the promise of knowledge or access. This practice is not supported by the wider church, but it is within the rights of a loremaster to do so, and sometimes it is necessary.

Benefits

Monetary and political power, as well as access to most, if not all, restricted areas within the library itself.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The process to become a loremaster is so long and arduous, that the only way anyone is removed is if they are deemed by their peers or the ruling lord to be unfit for duty, at which point a motion will be filed to the high loremaster to remove them from their position. This however can take a long time to do, and in extreme cases action has been taken to remove problematic loremasters who are a threat to the city or temple they serve in.
