Chapter 2, Session 1: A period of grief
General Summary
It's all about the game... who on this world cares about the winner! I am here to play!Session started with the immediate aftermath of The Kaechaek Party escape from The Wheel and their battle with Nemeis Barrow-Drawn Light Bearer Signill.
- The party speak to Sewastian the Gamer after meeting him in the desert.
Reeling from the fight still. Hermione continued driving away from the Wheel and left it behind whilst the rest of the party discussed what to do with Fionn Tadhg and still recovering from his sudden death.
The party were deeply unsure of what to do with Fionn's body, Esmerae cast Gentle Repose on The Spook to maintain his body and stop it's decay and Mallus continually looked after and cleaned the body to a point he looked more akin to a sleeping man than a dead one. The party realised there was a Spook's estate called Dawncrest that they could bring Fionn's body to in the hope he would be buried with his organisation whilst Peregrine continued to express their belief that the party could bring him back to life as she claimed to know a person in Garnet that she would be willing to speak to about reviving Fionn... though Esmerae reminded Peregrine the group were almost 30 days away from that town and needed to stop at Bloomwilt still to prepare for the journey.
With the debate around where to take Fionn unresolved, the party moved on to deciding their next direction: Hermione of Vallea expressed that she wanted to visit The Diamond as she had contacts she wished to meet there and wanted to keep moving out of fear of her The Woven Providence hunter coming for her. Meanwhile, the rest of the party wanted to visit Sanctuary both in order to find work there as promised by Niles Five Eyes and to chase the next dragonborn on Auriel's search for their father. The party also realised they could take the Shadewoods route to Sanctuary, though Esmerae was left uncomfortable with travelling so close to Siridome due to her traumatic experiences there in the past. The party agreed to talk about this again when they were preparing in Bloomwilt.
With that, Hermione continued travelling and the group came across a rather strange sight, as they spotted a man with a gaming table set up in the middle of the desert. The group decided to stop and investigate this phenomenon; they met a man named Sewastian the Gamer there who challenged the party to a game of their choice... eventually Peregrine challenged Sewastian to an acrobatics competition in which Peregrine showcased their skill as an acrobat and outperformed Sewastian... winning a book of inspirational quotes as a result!
After this, Esmerae played a rather different game with Sewastian in which they agreed to compete over who could be more mysterious, with Sewastian giving Esmerae a blue vial that was sealed until she could prove she won the bet.
With that, Sewastian left the party and they continued their journey, eventually being forced to stop and rest for the night out of fear of an exhaustion penalty.
The party all kept watch barring Hermione who had earned a long rest after driving throughout the day. The night was mostly relaxed and free of issues... that was, until members of the party spotted a dark tower in the night that was near invisible against the star filled sky. As the night went on, the tower appeared to move closer and closer to the party and they found that they struggled to keep track of it on their watches despite it's size and ominous scale.
Notably during this time Peregrine and Mallus also searched through Fionn's bag and found his notebooks, weapons, equipment and The Totem of the Sleeper that Fionn had been hiding from Peregrine due to it's clear link to sorcerers and she chose to hold onto it with a little confusion about why it was in Fionn's possession.
The next morning the party continued on their adventure but were disrupted by a new, strange but decidedly more dangerous sight in the distance as they saw a fully armoured knight screaming and running away from a creature shifting under the sands. The party agreed to help this man and picked them up in their Sand Speeder though, in doing so, they became the primary target of a Sand Wyrm that was hunting this new person as it's prey, the party helped the armoured man aboard who then used the sand speeder turret to fire at the creature... things became dangerous when Esmerae was snatched from the Sand Speeder from this creature and took significant damage but the party, using rope from Mallus and Hermione's floating disk spell managed to manipulate a way for Esmerae to glide behind the Sand Speeder and escape to safety with the party.
Upon escaping, the stranger introduced himself as 'Sigholdt' and expressed that they had been looking for the party; notably claiming that Peregrine and Auriel were both members of a group called The Waking before he hastily retracted the statement with some embarrassment at his mistake. However, the party agreed that it would be inhumane to leave him in the desert and so agreed to bring him to Bloomwilt with them if the stranger was interested.... he claimed he was looking for purpose and easily accepted the groups help.
