Geography

The Valley of the Ancients, spanning the entire western side of the Northern Reaches, is a rugged and ancient landscape steeped in history and mystery. Stretching from the foothills of the Quaritus Plateau to the borders of Arcreach's territories, this region is characterized by its mountainous terrain, deep valleys, and scattered settlements. At its heart lies the illustrious Kingdom of King's Chasm, one of the oldest and most enduring realms in all of Muria.
The Valley of the Ancients is dominated by rugged mountains and deep valleys, with the terrain becoming increasingly treacherous towards the west. The southwestern region resembles a steppe, where once-great nations stood in ages past. Vast cave networks stretch deep below, accessible via openings in mountains, most of which stretch into the Underdark below.
Despite its harsh landscape, the Valley boasts breathtaking natural beauty, with towering peaks and lush valleys teeming with life. The climate varies from temperate in the valleys to alpine in the higher elevations, with snowfall common in the winter months.

Fauna & Flora

The Valley is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, adapted to its rugged terrain and varied climate. Hardy coniferous trees cling to the mountainsides, while alpine meadows burst with colorful wildflowers during the brief summer months. Wildlife such as mountain goats, grizzly bears, and eagles thrive in the harsh environment, while underground caverns harbor mysterious creatures yet to be discovered. Dragons regularly make their nest in the many mountains of the Valley; some were said to have unspoken agreements with the rulers of the Chasm.
There have also been reports of Illithid dwellings within the Valley's secluded areas, though whether an Elder Brain is involved or not is unknown.

The Kingdom of King's Chasm serves as a bulwark against external threats, guarding the ancient knowledge contained within its halls. The King's Chasm, founded in the earliest days after the Divine Accord, boasts a rich cultural heritage and a storied past. Its halls contain vast archives of knowledge and lore, guarded zealously by the Chasm's rulers. Despite the passage of time, the Valley remains a nexus of old world lore, with its inhabitants preserving ancient traditions and customs passed down through generations. However, the Chasm does not look favorably to outsiders, regarding them with distrust. The secrets of the Valley does not yield itself to outsiders easily, and only those who are trusted by its caretakers are even allowed a small glimpse into the past.
Scattered settlements and villages dot the Valley, with most inhabitants leading a rugged and self-sufficient lifestyle. The Kingdom of King's Chasm, nestled within the heart of the region, stands as a bastion of civilization amidst the untamed wilderness. Small communities of diverse ethnicities and races call the Valley home, including a strong contingent of Githyanki who rebelled against their Xerasian overlords and established a thriving community. Additionally, centaurs roam the steppes, and isolated forts house communities of Duergar away from the bustling Chasm.
