Mentaur confronts Mey Gobar

General Summary

In the shadowed past, on the cusp of a decisive assault against the Southern Front, the line that demarcated the territories of the Kingdom of Minethol from The Empire of Kang, Mentaur was besieged by doubt. A suspicion had taken root in his mind, a gnawing thought that Mey Gobar might have pledged a clandestine allegiance to the adversary, Tekang.   Cloaked in disguise, Mentaur dared to penetrate the fortress of Mey Gobar, intent on facing the man he believed to be a traitor to The Shiield and to Thesendarium. The stronghold, however, was a bastion of vigilance, swarming with guards. His ascent to Mey Gobar’s quarters was thwarted when, upon the staircase that spiraled skyward, he was seized by the castle's sentinels and dragged into the bowels of the edifice, into the cold embrace of the dungeons.   There, in a cramped chamber, he was confronted by Terzak, Twain, and Sebastian. Their inquiries into his actions were met with an unwavering conviction; Mentaur accused Mey Gobar of treachery against The Shiield. Terzak’s words sought to soothe the turmoil within Mentaur, but the seeds of distrust had blossomed into obstinate belief. In a defiant act, Mentaur discarded his Shiield insignia, spurning the wine of fellowship offered by Terzak. He proclaimed his severance from The Shiield should they harbor traitors within their ranks. To his surprise, his former comrades hindered him not; instead, they provided a well-provisioned steed for his departure.   Alone, Mentaur embarked on a perilous venture, aiming to undermine the forces of Haldron through solitary sabotage. However, in an unfortunate twist, he mistook a soldier of Tekang for Haldron's own and stumbled into a well-monitored encampment. Overpowered by the soldiers of Tekang, he lost consciousness, only to awaken in a grim cell, shackled in a manner most cruel.   In that grim dungeon, time lost its meaning as Mentaur endured unspeakable torments at the hands of Tekang’s minions, including continuously being raped. His body was broken repeatedly, a relentless effort to extinguish any hope of flight.   Redemption came unexpectedly when a task force comprising Sir David, General Verisimo, Sebastian, Terzak, and Twain breached the cell. Sebastian, wielding his arcane prowess, "Dimension Doored" into the cell and halted time itself to extricate Mentaur from his torment. Sir David bore the weight of Mentaur's shattered form, a toll that aged him prematurely and diminished his vitality and acumen as he had to continuously stave off psionic attacks cast against his presence.   During the ensuing weeks of recuperation, Sir David posed a grave question to Mentaur, seeking his unwavering fidelity to Terzak, to "the cause," and to Huron VII. He implored Mentaur to perceive the beauty that endured amidst chaos. Mentaur requested a mere five minutes of reflection before committing his answer.   Yet, Sir David interpreted Mentaur’s hesitation as betrayal and struck him down in fury. Mentaur, though frail, withstood the assault, prompting Sir David to question the righteousness of his action.   As time mended their wounds, The Shiield was called upon to face a unique adversary, an Ancient Red Dragon named Bartar, whose allegiance lay with Tekang. Dragons have been unknown to the world for millenia; how and why a dragon was here, and in the confines of Tekang, was confounding. The creature was formidable, and The Shiield found themselves in dire straits. In a sacrifice of incalculable valor, Sebastian expended his life force in a spell that obliterated Bartar’s magical defenses. As he breathed his last, Sebastian was transported to Tekang's feet. Bartar was greatly wounded but managed to retreat back into the caverns where this battle took place. Mentaur ran after him to see where he went, but as he turned a corner in the cavern's tunnel, Bartar was not to be found.   Trillium discerned the existence of a death gate, a perilous link between Huron VII and Terzak, that required closure.   Meanwhile, Mey Gobar, doubting the demise of Sebastian, refused the title of First Wizard of the House of Huron.   As the threat of Tekang loomed ever closer, Mentaur sowed seeds of dissent among their ranks, converting key figures to the New World's ideology.   While The Shiield mourned their losses at The Golden Griffon, a death gate materialized, marked with Huron VII's sigil. Without a moment's hesitation, @Terzak, followed by Mentaur and Sir David, plunged through the portal.   They emerged amidst a brutal skirmish, where they witnessed Mithal Tarban, despite grave injuries, unleash a "Plague of Goodness," decimating the enemy. Huron VII then turned the tide, repelling Tekang's forces.   The confrontation culminated with the fall of Haldron at the hands of Huron VII, who reclaimed an ancient Elven sword, a symbol of unity and power. Raising the venerable blade, Huron VII declared, "One world, one emperor!"
