Session 0017 - The Death of Sken

General Summary

Realizing that this fight has quickly become a life or death situation, The Heretic, summoning internal strength and will, manage to pick off the rest of the soldiers. However this came at a great cost.   Sken, the beloved mascot to the party, received a death blow from the soldier he was engaged with. With his final breath, he reached towards the ceiling and said "I always loved the rain". At that, a soft, gentle rain began to fall in the corriders of the dungeon for a radius of 200 feet from Sken's now dead body. The rains had both a healing effect on the rest of The Heretic, and a calming effect on them and the remaining two soldiers that had run off in to a storage room during the first part of the fiight.   The soldiers walked out of the storage room with their hands up and asked pardon from The Heretic. They promised they would leave the area and not return if they were allowed to pass. The Heretic conceded and allowed them to leave.   Recovering from their wounds, The Heretic decide to bed down for the night in the western-most storage room, creating a make-shift wall with the barrels that the room was filled with. They took turns on nightwatch in pairs. No action was met, the soldiers they allowed to leave were seemingly true to their word. Before bedding down for the night, Orianna and Ikiri went to tend to the party's mounts and gather a few more supplies from saddle bags they had forgotten to take. The party also stacked the dead bodies of the soldiers in the eastern-most storage room so that anyone else walking through the dungeon's corridors would not encounter a scene that would send them looking for the party. Also, Ironcast and Orianna stripped a few dead soldiers of their plate armor and wearing them to upgrade their own protection. Benneth puts Sken's body into a "Pocket Dimension", a spell he knows, which holds Sken's body into an extra-dimensional space. The party wants to bury Sken properly later.   The next morning, The Heretic return to the room they defeated the ghouls in a few days prior, to try and detect whether any more children were in the vicinity. On their way to that room from their campsite, they encounter a young woman running down the western-most stairs into the passageway The Heretic were standing in. This woman eventually identified herself as Nebula Greyhaze. She was unusual in appearance. Though she seemed quite Human in physical form, her skin was a pale shade of blue with various white stripes. This patterning appeared as though it might be painted on, or perhaps tattoed on (she was never asked to confirm). Nebula also had a striking head of pure white hair that cascaded down to her shoulders. After some questioning, Nebula revealed that she awoke in the Temple above, unsure of how she got there. Nebula said that when she awoke, a man was walking away from her. She waited until he was out of sight then bolted to down the staircase in order to avoid running into him when he presumably would return. The Heretic agreed to accept Nebula into their party to help her out, as she had scarce clothing and only a quarterstaff for protection.   The party continued on to the room of their destination. In the room, they encountered piles of childrens' clothing. Cathlynn came up with an idea of having Tigeth smell their clothing and tracking the children's whereabouts. Tigeth was successful in picking up a trail and led the party down to a deeper level in the dungeon.   Traversing a downward sloping hall that was lined with a bronze bas relief art scene depicting demons and devils in various grotesque forms, the party came to a T-intersection. At the head of the intersection was a large set of bronze doors with similar scenes depicted on its surface. Matteu tried to listen through the doors but heard nothing. At this intersection, Tigeth seemed to lose the trail as he circled around, confused which direction to continue towards.   Cathlynn wildshaped into a small spider and decided to check what lied beyond down each corridor. To the west, she encountered a triangular room with an Owlbear chained to the floor. To the East, she found a five-head hydra, also chained to the floor, in a state of slumber.
