Evolving the Lightkeeper Program

For the first time, Bastion was attacked by a once-thought extinct Hunter. The machines that were assumed to have been annihilated from existence and that mankind had sacrificed everything to defeat were still somehow alive and replicating. Casualties and collateral damage were considerable with many civilians being killed, but the Hunter was ultimately staved off by security forces and local Lightkeepers.
Traumatized and vulnerable, a push for far more advanced defense systems was ordered and the invention of new prototypes of Guardian Frames. Brilliant AEGIS scientist and chief architect of the program Doctor Vincent Anders designed several types of weapons platforms with even greater armor and equipped with experimental armaments, making them more capable of handling the threat of the Hunters, construction on these new Guardian Frames began with the hope that they would be ready for deployment before something even worse could happen.
The Lightkeeper program was enlisted not only for war efforts, but as the premier peacekeeping instruments for all of New Terra's citizens. They performed the highest priority, most sensitive tasks for several decades until 2891 when a transport from the Fermi mining colony carrying a shipment of Helium-3 was en route to the Mare Imbrium refinery. But it never arrived, prompting concern and suspicion among the officials at the refinery.
