The New War

Bastion surrounded itself with defenses against invasion while Luna had its Veritas Station and growing fleet, but they realized it wasn’t enough to keep themselves safe. Development began on a way to defend against their enemies, and the preliminary plans for a new kind of weapon were formed. Harnessing the advancements of the MIND Link combined with new military technologies, a new fighting force was created.
Elite soldiers were specially trained for a new kind of battlefield, equipping them with expert training, heavy weaponry, and specially developed neural implants to enhance their combat abilities. These living, breathing instruments of war were unlike anything mankind had seen since before the great collapse of civilization. AEGIS confidence in their success was high, and in 2801, two dozen of these soldiers were transported to Mars to retaliate and quell the foreign threat.
The squad arrived on the surface and were met with an unexpected foe - an entire fleet of combat machines. Mars had been hard at work developing new technology to wage its war with robotic proxies, and was already armed to the teeth. Despite being prepared for nearly anything and ready to kill, AEGIS soldiers were no match for the Martian drones.
The failed attack was met with an escalation back home, and over the next several decades, AEGIS’s top scientists and engineers would build the pinnacle of humanity’s crowning technological achievements. A new installation aboard Veritas Station, where Earth’s ultimate machines would be forged. This new facility, home of the greatest weapons ever created, would be known as The Lighthouse.
