Galduri

Most of us that once lived there left when it was over. The few that decided to remain are forced to live on a venom's edge.

The once moderatly populated north-eastern region in Narzuvim is but a memory of what it was. The lush plains, hills and forest stretch on for tens of kilometres between sparsely populated gatherings of Urukin and other Necur. The few settlements that remain after the Murky Plague devastated the population try to survive as best they can. In the hostile region, however, the ones who remain are challenged every day by nature itself with monsters and beasts alike.

Geography

Galduri is a sizeable hilly region in the north, bordering Talustar with many small rivers going across the region and down into Rhymia. Further south one finds the lengthy grass corridor, the Goldur Plains, that is broken off with smaller forests before it connects to Galati Forest, also known as Cunn by the Urukin. In the plains, the ruins of villages and the former town of Scaro lie abandoned after the disease outbreak that ran throughout the region and its neighbour for 138 years.
Much of the region is abandoned even by the native Urukin because of the disease. The hill pastures that Demon settlers raised their cattle and livestock are both empty and covered in grass. Mines with carts and pickaxes left by its wielders echo eerie silence and hold plentiful new dangers as the years pass. The old farms have turned to water-filled ditches as they stay untouched for generations.

Natural resources

There was once a time when the nobility of the region and other local rulers could harvest wheat, barley and rye with abundance due to the fertile soil. The local flora had many different varieties of fruits and edibles, green fruits from the CrĂșnlook were a delicacy that even the King of Nekuram in his palace wanted.
Before the plague, there were many established mines in the lower hills and mountain range's edge that were looking for usable ore. Most mines in the mountain were looking for the valuable durulir that is used for weapons and tools for its hardiness and less maintenance needs. What most mined instead was dark iron ore. At the time there were a few silver mines too. The salt mine further up in the mountains is still operational. In Scaro, the famed Scaro Gems were mined exclusively and were a strong trade resource for the region before the plague.

History

The Urukin call Gladuri their home along with Rhymia. Ailern, as they call the region, was for many centuries left alone by the rest of Nekuram's inhabitants, even the Vampires to the west. They lived mostly in isolation with the occasional trade with Salendites in the south. Urukin lived in a clan-based society and lived off the lands in mostly friendly competition with each clan. Around 1100 V.D. the first Necur moved into the region and the species met with little hostility, From then on the region slowly was integrated into Nekuram with Rhymia.
The devastating event that left most of the two regions were the Murky Plague. Starting 2105 V.D. the sudden disease was discovered to affect Tatarus settlers along with Necurs. Before anyone had the time to react, whole villages and towns were affected as it spread quickly into the population. The Sheerfs tried to take action but every attempt by both them and the local government failed. People desperate fled which in turn depopulated the already depopulating regions. Efforts outside of the region were put in place to hinder the spread with quarantines and settlement-wide policies of not allowing Galdurians inside. However, the plague seems to have been very local, or at least, it did not reach much further away than the regions themselves. Galduri was avoided for many years by new settlers and the people who stayed had to survive on their own. After more than a century, the region seem to be free from the disease but the damage was done. 70 per cent of the native Urukin died and left the region scared and desolated.
