The Godswood
The Godswood is a large forest in Western Emic. It is one of the great living forests. It is so-called because the forest itself seems to have some type of sentience. People who wonder the Godswood have the feeling it is watching them, and it seems to be able react to people's actions. The edges of the wood seem to be more isolated from the intelligence behind the forest than the center, and the further you move in the more protective it can become.
The forest itself is mixed Deciduous and Coniferous. Many different types of trees can be found, even some that are not normally native to this area. The grown is thick toward the center and sparser toward the edges, though the trees in the edges are still numerous to support a thriving logging trade. The forest also tends to move and grow as time goes by. It is larger than it was, despite the actions of the loggers on its borders, and its shape changes and rearranges itself at times. Clearing tend to appear and disappear. At is smallest, during the reign of King Averon when Emic was a part of Eroth, it was at its smallest, and at the boarder stood Castle Mithril, home of the Mithril Knight. It has since grown past the castle which now lies in Ruins and is double the size it ones was.
The Locals call it the Godswood, as they believe it may be home to Firiel, Goddess of nature and that is why it has a life of it's own. There are some who say it was planted by ancient Fey and retains some of the magic of those creatures. Some say it is cursed and it does indeed have a reputation of traveler entering and not returning. There are stories of people who have gone into the forest deep of trails and road that twist through the forest in all directions but that lead nowhere. Travelers following these paths sometimes never make their way back. Sometimes a path may even move, some say so that way when you turn around, the trail you are following will be gone, and when you turn back, it will also be gone, leaving you deep in the forest with not landmarks to guide you out.
There is also a story of a tower hidden in the forest somewhere. It can be seen towering above the tree tops at times but no one has been able to find it and trying to follow it leads people to getting lost. Those that enter the wood tend to stay sloe to its borders where it is mostly stable and safe.
