Bervalak
Overview
Bervalak is a village in Cormyr about one days ride north east of Suzail. Bervalak is about 10 miles east off Calantar’s Way (main trade route). It is a sleepy town, surrounded by farms and livestock fields, small wooded area’s, and north of Darmish Lake, known locally for good fishing. Bervalak is located in Chessian Duchy, governed by Archduke Crownsilver.
Bervalak is actually the central village of 15 other hamlets and thorps that the Silversword name now holds sway over. Bervalak and the local community primary economy is based on crops, cattle, milk, and cheese. However, the Inner Sea collects woodwork made from Ballas wood, which grows in this region of Cormyr. It is what the region around Berlavak is mostly known for, and is a prime export from Bervalak. Caravans come twice a year to buy the much wanted woodwork, and is sold throughout the lands of the inner sea (Cormyrian Ballas woodwork).
In Flamerule DR 1361, by order of Azoun Obarskyr IV, King of Cormyr, Bervalak and the lands around were given to Lord Falcren Silversword. Some say this was done because of recognition of the Silversword name, by deeds done by Falcren’s sons, Maythor and Morthrou.
Bervalak and the lands around were previously under the protection from the Noble House of Goldsmith; the King’s order moved these lands under Falcren’s control. At this time, a new manor house & estate was built on a hill to the south side of town. The estate was completed in early DR 1363.
The lord Falcren is well-liked by those under his protection. Perhaps not as charismatic and commanding as his sons, he is a fair ruler and is known to help out less fortunate locals by gathering citizens to help and at times monetary support. He also keeps his local taxes low.
