Celtic Lands

The southwestern corner is referred to by outsiders as the Celtic Lands, or the Celtic Territories.  It is a vast wilderness, sparsely populated by the indiginous tribes placed there by the Celtic gods.  A forested and hilly area, situated between the Massi desert to the east and the Endless Sea to the west, this area of Ankomst is home to Nyverden's largest population of megafauna.  Large herds of herbivores, such as mastodons, antelope, and bison, roam the Dry Plains and are hunted by more than just the various Celtic clans.  Sabre-toothed tigers, dire wolves, cheetahs and short-faced bears prowl the plains and hills in substantial numbers.  In the woodlands to the south, giant ground sloths, irish deer, and boulder-sized armadillos forage through the woods and swamps.  Large predatory birds are found in numbers greater than anywhere else on Nyverden.  Some are flightless and taller than man on horseback, while some soar on 30 ft wingspans, covering hundreds of miles in a day, and establishing rookeries as far away as the Great Divinding Range to the east.
