The Ladies' Hiking Club is currently engaged in the assault on Anthur-Ro, they only have a vague idea of what is going down on Stille'en. It is apparent, however, that they are going to be the central part of it.
Torwall Ignus told
Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters that the Circle is intending to take the extremely uncharacteristic step of executing a prisoner on purpose. This prisoner is said to have aided and abetted the enemy, and in so doing to have crippled Anthur-Ro's ability to maintain supervision of the Phylactery of Naraoch (likely meaning Fanny, but technically her children would qualify as well).
The gang thinks this must be
Tarts McGillicuddy, who reluctantly supported them when they visited in
Lakeshore. As a former mage of the Circle, he wanted nothing else to do with Anthur-Ro but was pulled into action by the obvious risk to the women and their complete lack of knowledge as to what was going on. He provided them with some of their sweetest gear to date and later sent an eavesdropping spell to them in reverse so that they could hear his shop being invaded by the Circle in pursuit of Fanny. Speaking in code, he encouraged them to leave while they still could and set them on a path towards
Echadnaur and
Angel's Rest. He told them everything he could about the Phylactery and how it's supposed to work.
Torwall and "his people on the inside" are deeply suspicious that the traitor is being put to death before even being called before the Circle to defend himself.
Now, our people on the inside are not on board with this - they say it smells like a cover-up. They say the Council is deadlocked about what to do about the situation, and he hasn’t been brought forward to face their questioning yet. They want to get him out, but they’re all mages of the Circle - they’re always watched and they don’t have the numbers to do it. We were going to try anyway – but now, here you are.
Can you do it? If we can get you into Anthur-Ro, and I’m not saying we can, can you find your way through, find him, get the information out of him -- ask him, kidnap him, torture him, whatever it takes -- so that we can find out who this enemy is, what they wanted with you, what the Circle’s involvement was, and push the Council to act?

Now that Fanny has recovered the "cog" from
Tara Thessaly and
Vega Spritzer retrieved Tara to confirm for Fanny that the cog is intended for use in the Anthur-Ro library, things are starting to take shape.
