Western Forest Elves

Western forest elves are, as the name suggests, the wood elves native to The Western Forest, which stretches across much of western Obseron. They live mostly in small migratory bands, though there are some exceptions such as Yililath and the holy city of Aru Vela. They are often distrustful of outsiders, and though they are rarely hostile they are often reclusive and will rarely interact with outsiders voluntarily.
Most living in the migratory bands tend to be hunter-gatherers. The residents of towns often raise pigs and grow mushrooms and some low light plants, but they do not engage in agriculture that could harm the forest, and obtain most of their food by trading finished goods to the hunter gatherers. They do not use coins for trade, and their economy relies mainly on barter.
They largely worship the nature goddess Arthara, and some of their largest settlements are built in and around massive holy trees, the largest at Aru Tera, the capital of Yililath. Xatha and Flek are also popular. The most important yearly events tend to be related to the seasons, such as solstices and equinoxes. Despite the decrease in daylight seen in most of the western forest, the western forest elves tend to associate the winter with greater light, as more reaches the ground when the trees shed their leaves.
Western forest elves speak a somewhat different variety of elvish from their eastern kin, which is mutually intelligible but can sound strange to elven speakers from further east. Some also speak common.
