Modified Canine Distemper
A modified form of Canine Morbillivirus, originally engineered by Samuel Eichman to target canine Shifters.
It can also target other canine-related shapeshifters, such as Kitsune (although only very young Kitsune are affcted, as those who have attained Chiko have usually mastered their healing ability.)
The modified condition causes edema, a rare symptom in the naturally occuring disease, swellings which can appear dark or bruised, leading to them resembling the 'bubous' present in Yersinia Pestis infection.
Symptoms
Running nose, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, excess salivation, coughing and labored breathing, loss of apetite, edema, and sudden weight loss.
As the disease progresses, it can cause seizures and involuntary muscle twitches, especially in the jaw and mouth, resulting in what are known as "chewing-gum fits". These fits may worsen over time, progressing to grand mal seizures. In those suffering seizures, blindness and partial paralysis, usually of the face, are typically also found.
Some suffers also display sensory sensitivity, especially to light and touch, lack of co-ordination, restlessness, and deterioration of motor skills.
