Werecoyote

Werecoyote are a species of Shifter native to North America.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Werecoyotes possess three morphs, referred to as shifts:
  1. Unshifted: an unshifted werecoyote is indistinguishable from a Human to the naked eye, although they still possess superhero abilities. They may choose to allow their true eyes to show when unshifted.
  2. Half-Shift: in a half-shift, a werecoyotes's claws are visible. Their facial structure changes, especially around the brow and nose, and they grow fangs. Their eyes also appear to glow. The musculature of their neck and shoulders changes, causing them to have noticable a hunched appearance.
  3. Full-shift: a fully shifted werecoyote is distinguishable from a normal coyote only in that they tend to be slightly larger, and their true eyes may be visible. Full-shift ability is extremely common, with almost all individuals able to freely move between shifts without restriction. Some female werecoyote may lose this ability after giving birth, although the reason for this is not known.

Genetics and Reproduction

Werecoyote are the only true shifter to not be able to infect others by bite, only reproducing sexually, although those bitten by other species of shifter may occaisionally become werecoyote, so bitten werecoyote are not completely unknown.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Like true coyote, werecoyote tend to be gregarious, but rarely form packs larger than a family unit. Temporary packs may be formed to face a specific threat or problem, but these are rarely long-lasting.

However, werecoyote are well known for their tendency to form close friendships with members of other species, especially humans. They are not territorial, but may be possessive over their friends or lovers, and are more likely than humans or other shifters to be strictly monogamous because of this.

Facial characteristics

Werelion eyes refract light in a way that makes them appear to glow white, although like other shifters, they can control this if they choose to.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Coyotes possess enhanced senses, especially eyesight, and have excellent night vision. Their sense of smell, while superhuman, is not as good as that of Werewolves, but their eyesight is considerably sharper.
