Golems, Tron Daurat

Overview

by LEC
Unlike the golems of Ithara, golems of Tron Daurat are more than simple automatons. Through the use of creation magic, these golems are imbued with a level of sapience and individuality, allowing them to make their own decisions and even speak, if given the ability. This powerful magic also allows golems in Tron Daurat to be even less cohesive than their Itharan cousins: it is not unusual to see golems composed of floating, disconnected components, or magically-enhanced materials normally inappropriate for such a construct, such as stained glass. Many magical enhancements can be attached to golems, allowing them to cast spells, enhance their sensory abilities, and more. Many golems created by the moon elves are assembled with raw earthen material and grow grasses and plants on their bodies.

Thanks to their self-sufficiency, golems take on a much wider range of roles in Tron Daurat than Ithara: according to the elves' wishes, golems can serve as butlers, guards, laborers, clerks, and even active soldiers. Some golems have even chosen to explore the greater world, either through a task given to them by their creators or of their own volition. However, one limitation prevents golems from being fully self-sufficient: in accordance with the ten phases of creation, a golem is imbued with a particular purpose, its binah ("understanding" in Draconic), which it cannot willingly act against or deviate from. This can be as specific as "defend this location from demons" or as broad as "defend elves from any harm". A golem's binah can be intentionally altered by a skilled mage after its creation, but magical confusion or disruption can potentially alter or even remove a golem's binah, which can be disastrous.

One particular type of golem, the gargoyle, has seen a huge surge in production in Tron Daurat since the onset of the Nightmare. These specialized golems serve as sentries and wards on elven architecture and often have magic imbued within them specifically to combat demons.
