Pontë Néyansar
The Pontë Néyansar is the bridge that connects the sister cities of Arborcítta and Undacítta over the Ilduinë River. It is built of travertine marble mined in the Blue Mountains, near the Ilduinë's source. It is 450 feet long (consisting of five equal-length arches) and 38 feet wide.
An inscription over the central archway reads in Elvish formal:
"Sisters forged on hill and sea,
Never parted from each other.
With the Earth our Father and the Wood our Mother,
Branches of the same blessed tree."
The bridge was built in Y80 of the Age of Integrity, making it the third-oldest bridge in Scalados. The Arnéyansar is a festival that takes place on 8 June yearly on the bridge and in the districts of each city closest to it (the Grand Park in Arborcítta and the Feylights neighborhood in Undacítta, respectively) that commemorates the anniversary of the bridge's dedication and the close bond between the sister cities.
The Pontë Néyansar has survived many floods and Hagstorms in its four millennia of use, and it occasionally needs repairing. This task falls to the Bridgeguards Guild, a special unit of the Royal Scaladosian Forces highly trained as both sentinels and masons. They check all carts, vehicles, and pack animals crossing the bridge to ensure no danger of overshooting its weight capacity, and they carefully inspect the bridge during off-hours for any cracks or structural deficiencies. Clerics of Dagda, with their knowledge of craftswork and the earth, often join or work with the Bridgeguards Guild to make any magical repairs beyond the abilities of mundane craftsmen.
