Danu's Veil

Danu's Veil is a waterfall in Scalados, shortly outside Arborcítta. It has a height of 570 ft and a plunge of 520 ft. It is a part of the Eldianíri River, a tributary of the Ilduinë River system.   According to legend, the nearby Eldanír-in-Danu temple-campus is the site of Danu and Dagda's wedding, after Dagda's defeat of his treacherous sister Morigana. The happy couple rode through the countryside on their way back to Arborea on a golden winged horse. Where Danu flung her wedding veil off to kiss her husband along the way, it fell along the edge of a cliff and turned into the waterfall. Since then, young brides-to-be have traveled to this waterfall to wash their hands and feet in the pool at its base in the days before their weddings. Danu's marriage to Dagda is one of the strongest and most loving among any two gods; the falls attract pilgrims even from the not-particularly-devout, as well as some worshippers of gods from other dynasties (particularly the Olympian Dynasty, who are not particularly known for their healthy relationships). Danu's Veil was also the birthplace of the Triplets of Threnlíla, a trio of Aasimar blessed by the Wild Dynasty due to the devotion of their parents, Abelard te-Lugos and Heloise te-Lugos.   Eldanír-in-Danu formerly maintained a shrine in the area, but shut down its operation during the Quoluvë epidemics of the mid-800s. It has since returned to nature.   Ironically, a number of highly poisonous flora grow in abundance near the falls, including aconitum, oleander, hemlock, and death's cap mushrooms. The Elvish expression "going to Danu's Veil," in the wood elven dialects of southern Scalados, therefore can mean either "to be hopelessly in love," "to plan a wedding (implied to be prematurely)," or "to plan on poisoning one's spouse." Only the first form of the expression has spread beyond southern Scalados.
