Corridor One
Corridor One was the inaugural mission of the Pathfinders project. After World War 3, Earth's orbit became shrouded in debris through a cascading Kessler Syndrome event. Any mission to Lower Earth Orbit or beyond faced an overwhelmingly high probability of catastrophic failure from debris impacts. The Pathfinders sought to open up a channel of space along the equator by clearing it of orbital debris and preventing additional debris incursions. This area was designated Corridor One.
Over the course of nine years and at the cost of hundreds of Pathfinders, Corridor One was finally clear enough to launch regular missions in 2142. This region of space became humanity's foothold among the stars as host to virtually all launches for the first few decades until other orbital sectors could be cleared. Even after orbital debris became less of a concern, Corridor One's equatorial location meant that most launch vectors would pass through Corridor One.
Today only a set of small Navigation Beacons mark the extents of Corridor One, otherwie indistinguishable from the rest of orbital space. Most ships pass through unaware or unconcerned with the effort and lives it took to make their journey possible.
