Bijtend Cliffs

These extremely steep cliffs on the south of the Weidenlanden form a natural defense for the city of Margraten. Fort Verdadiging sits atop the cliff able to see for miles off the coast.

Geography

Sheer 900 meter cliffs just out of the Arden Sea and form the southern boundary of the Weidenlanden. The shale here is loose and climbing these cliffs is all but impossible without the proper equipment. Even then, it is a difficult and arduous task. There is no easy way up the cliffs, so to get to the mainland of Frisia from here, one has to sail west around to the Marnandering and into Margraten or head east past the Bodemwasser towards the low area near Vlodrop where the cliffs disappear into the Laaglanden.

Fauna & Flora

Many seabirds nest on these cliffs as there are few natural predators that can reach their eggs, save for some raptors. Dried beach grasses cover their nests. These eggs fetch a fair price abroad and the locals make competitions of climbing down the cliffs and collecting them for sale.

Natural Resources

Seabird eggs and reeds are plentiful throughout the cliffs.
I can almost reach that egg! Just a little further!
