Aravel Dimfalmaion
From an early age, Aravel Dimfalmaion was fascinated by the written word; while his contemporaries studied music, the arts, archery, plant husbandry, politics, and their own gods, the young Avel studied the lines and curves of ink and page. In them, he discovered something haunting, beautiful, sweet, powerful, and terrible; the words themselves carried the ability to create visions in the minds of others, vivid and real. It fascinated him. He dug deeper. By the time he was fifty, he had read through every book, scroll, and text he could get his hands upon. Through these studies, Aravel had discovered something else, hiding between and behind the letters. He had discovered Magic. The fabric of reality, viewed through a certain perspective and lens, could be bent and twisted to one's will, so long as care was taken.
The next thirty-odd years were spent studying with every sage, wizard, sorceror, and hedge-caster he could find...until one after another, they grew irritated with his constant, unyielding questions, and they inevitably fobbed him off on an unfortunate colleage. At age 88, though still considered young, the local elders proclaimed him an adult, and gave him permission to venture forth into the world to find his answers.
The following three months were the quietest in living memory for that enclave of elves, and given the elven lifespan, that's saying something. They were also the happiest.
Though there were some tribulations upon the way, Aravel Dimfalmaion eventually found his way to Placeholder University , and through his impassioned (obsessive) studies there, made a startling discovery and a rather...unusual contact, becoming a disciple of Iden. From then on, he began adventuring, travelling to discover all he could about magic, the gods, and their connections to each other and the world around them all.
