Le Champion de la Reine

Le Champion de la Reine (Gothique "The Queen's Champion") is the name given by Les Chevaliers d'Outremer to the Emperor's Champion. Chosen from the ranks of Les Chevaliers to challenge and defeat enemy champions in duels, he bears the Black Sword and Melisende's favor and serves for a single battle before returning to his previous rank.

Appointment

Le Champion de la Reine is selected by Les Chevaliers d'Outremer from their ranks before each battle, based on which of them has represented the greatest devotion to Le Reine Melisende. Occasionally, Melisende herself will select a champion herself.

Duties

Le Champion de la Reine fights individually against the champions and leaders of the enemy force, defeating them in duels in the name of La Reine and the God-Emperor.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Le Champion de la Reine wields the Black Sword, but otherwise fights using his usual arms and armor. He wears a token from Melisende, most often a scarf or kerchief tied around his arm.
