Châtelain
A senior commander of Les Chevaliers d'Outremer, below Maréchal. The title is Gothique for Castellan; originally Fulk's castellany used standard Imperial terms but after Hugh's coup and the Melisendian reforms, Gothique forms were used.
Because Les Chevaliers are a castellany-sized force, the office of Maréchal is concerned with strategic goals and liaison with La Reine Melisende, leaving the Châtelain in tactical and field command.
