Seeing Eyes

More Than Macrans

The Seeing Eyes are a group of Macrans who live on P'Ache Micro.   They were once all part of the same group of people, but around -58 PT they split off and created their own community. While offworlders, particularly Primians, see them as an even less clean, less advanced version of the Macrans, the Eyes know differently.

History

The Seeing Eyes had been around in some form or another for many millennia, but it was not until -59 PT that they became an official group. It is no coincidence that this coincides with the arrival of the Primians on P'Ache Micro, led by Primian Ro G'Ga.   They saw this as proof of everything they'd been convinced was true for years and fled the cities and major settlements. They knew, with a high level of certainty, that the Primians would try to take away their way of life and force them to give up their freedoms. To protect themselves and their way of life, they separated and moved to isolated areas of the planet which they had already identified as being easily defensible.   They were active in The First Micro Rebellion and even more so during The Second Micro Rebellion, but over the course of the following millennium the impact of the Primians on the planet damaged the ecosystems which the Eyes were using to survive and eventually they too died out.

Geography

At their height during and after the Second Micro Rebellion, there were Seeing Eyes on all three continents of P'Ache Micro, however they were always strongest on Rakan.   In -59 PT, most of the Eyes headed for and made their home in the Bird's Eye Mountains on the north coast of Rakan, which is how they got their name. Some settled in other, equally isolated, areas but the Bird's Eye Mountains became something of a spiritual home for them and was always their largest base.

Culture

For the most part, especially at the beginning, Seeing Eyes were held together more by their culture and shared beliefs than by shared heritage.

Beliefs and Ideals

Seeing Eyes were named in part for their home in the Bird's Eye Mountains, but also for their belief that they, unlike others, could see the truth of what was to come. This paranoia is what held them together as a community, and shaped a lot of their beliefs and ideals.

Freedom is Everything

Freedom is more than some ideal to be aimed towards, it is essential for life and is worth living and dying to protect.

Change Is Wrong

Things have worked perfectly to this point and have done for millennia. Changing things means making them worse and is therefore wrong.

People Will Lie & Steal

At their heart people are base creatures and will lie, steal, cheat and kill to get what they want. It's the way of the natural world.

Everyone For Themselves

No one can be made to do something they don't want to do. People will only help others if they have what they need themselves first.
The above statements were considered as fact by Seeing Eyes and could often be heard being used to explain an action or event. They are unquestionable truths.

Customs

Below is a list of some of the customs which were peculiar to Seeing Eyes and separated them from the rest of Macran society.
  1. The Outstretched Palms
  2. When meeting another person, in greeting it was customary for a person to hold their arms out wide, their palms facing forward, fingers spread. This is the closest thing to a surrender sign and is a symbol of trust as you are proving simultaneously that you have no weapons therefore meaning them no harm, as well as trusting them not to harm you. Hurting someone who presents in this position is seen as bad luck unless a previous provocation exists.
  3. The Pat Down
  4. When entering the residence, safe house, or safe space of someone else, it is considered respectful for the person entering to surrender all weapons and submit to a pat down to ensure there are none hidden. It is said only a fool allows anyone to enter their safe space without knowing what they bring with them first.
  5. Freedom Swap
  6. When a sufficient amount of trust has been built up between two people, they may decide to do a Freedom Swap. This consists of an exchange of information which would allow one to contact the other or get a message to the other. This is not necessarily used as a way of staying in touch but more as a way of extending a person's emergency contact list.

Reputation

In -59PT, most Macrans considered the Seeing Eyes to be paranoid, extreme and perhaps deluded. Where most Macrans saw the promise of progress the Primians brought with them as exciting, the same technological advances were feared and rejected.   This perception changed around the start of the First Micro Rebellion when the Seeing Eyes fought alongside rebels. They were still considered weird and loners, but they connected over their shared goal.   After the Second Micro Rebellion, when the Seeing Eyes returned to their isolation, stating they did not trust the Primians they were once again mocked for not understanding how this time was different and for seeing only the worst possible outcome.   Many Primians could not see the difference between Macrans and Seeing Eyes. Those that could tell them apart simply thought they were dirtier and more backwards.

They were kind of right, in a way... though perhaps a bit on the extreme side.

Just because they were paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get them. XD
