Yasmar Island

Geography

The island of Yasmar sits on the south eastern side of the main continent of Vellikka, on the southern edge of Laykan Bay.   The island is mostly rocks and rocky outcrops, with stone and pebble beaches. The body of the island is surprisingly flat, with a river cutting through a ravine in the middle of it. The island is approximately 40 miles in diameter.

Localized Phenomena

Yasmar Island's geographic position makes it a target of The Rising Tide, a natural phenomenon which causes a large wave to decimate anything on the island and destroying everything in its path once every four years.

Climate

The island is normally temperate, with a fairly mild climate.

Fauna & Flora

There's no long lasting flora or fauna on the island. In amongst the rocks around the bottom of the island, small amphibians and shellfish find a home, most managing to migrate before the devastation of The Rising Tide.

History

Before the Vellich evolved enough for sentience, the planet of Vellikka was attempted to be settled by Jakunguh as a holiday destination. Yasmar Island was identified as the perfect place for a collection of their holiday homes (known to the Vellich as a Place of Spirits) and they started to build, only for them to lose the construction site and several construction workers to The Rising Tide. Since then, no one has tried to inhabit the island.
