Vulren Centruza Venzana
Former Sun King of the Lorthr'ten
Vulren Centruza Venzana is the deposed and exiled king of the Lorthr'ten Tribes. Originally showing immense promise for his people, his reign is currently best-known for its short length, ruinous domestic policy, and disastrous end. After a compromising alliance with the Diocese of the Fen, his people became vassals of the religious hegemony. This surrender of autonomy led to a revolution of his own people and his expulsion from the region. His precipitous fall from grace stemmed from a rumored mental and emotional instability that led to erratic decisions for himself and his people. After the end of his reign, he has since been missing along with an entire battalion of his most loyal troops. Whispers from across Pillarin say that he has been spotted recently in the Far North, but such reports are unconfirmed.
Vulren grew up as a soft-spoken noble, attending prestigious private academies across the Tribes. His family openly pushed him to pursue advanced courses in magic, statecraft, and etiquette, which was always accompanied by a promotion of his destined greatness. While young, he regularly refuted these claims and simply desired to make the Sun Tribe proud, but as he grew older his protestations softened and eventually disappeared. He was well-known for his regular community service initiatives in maintaining the most fragile ecosystem within the Thicket, the Lady's Tears. This earned him immense popularity with the Deepwood Tribe, who carried a great deal of influence within the Conclave.
When Vulren was 45, his family had secured all but one vote in the Tribal Conclave to ensure his accession, that belonging to the Moon Tribe, one of the Sun Tribe's rivals with whom tensions had been intense in recent centuries. Vulren's father, Kelladen, secured a deal with the Vamenor family to broker a marriage between Vulren and their eldest daughter Xilmoira. The deal was struck as a means to secure the Moon Tribe's vote in exchange for the prestige of merging the bloodlines with an upcoming King and to ease tensions in general. Vulren and Xilmoira were formally introduced at their official state betrothal where they publicly professed their intention. Shortly after, the unanimous vote was cast by all Thirteen Tribes of the Lorthr'ten to elect Vulren as the next King.
After the betrothal, he and Xilmoira were required to spend regular intervals together to become acquainted. They both were enrolled together at the Deidretha Academy where they were educated in both magical arts and in the nuances of statecraft. The rare opportunity to train a head of state from a young age allowed Vulren to understand the nuances of Lorthr'tens legal system and to begin planning phases of his reign. While the details of his planning years are largely considered state secrets, it is implied that they were considered of the highest caliber. Lady Xilmoira and him became well-acquainted during this process and were said to have grown closer than most arranged betrothals had historically been.
In the years leading up to his coronation, Vulren''s parents were killed when a storm sunk their ship when sailing west for a trade negotiation with the Harwick Trade Company's representatives in eastern Plentius. After this, Vulren somewhat retreated from public life. Lady Xilmoira often made appearances in his stead. He openly believed that the death of his parents had some degree of foul play involved, committing Sun Tribe resources in excess to extensive investigations. In Bone's Chill 9038, Vulren was crowned King of the Lorthr'ten Tribes when Queen Liliata died. Shortly after his coronation, his wedding to Xilmoira Vamenor was held and she became his Queen Consort.
During his comparatively short time as King of the Lorthr'ten Tribes, Venzana instituted extremely Pillarinian laws upon his people. These were mostly viewed as progressive in nature, expanding the rights of the people rather than that of the Tribal Elders. However, in 9039, it became clear to the Tribes and the people that many of the laws signed into place had underlying contingencies which tightened the grip of the Throne in times of emergency. Explicitly powers of the Tribal King became broad, overreaching, and implied overnight when Vulren, completely legally, began a massive purge of Elven society. In the month of Low Tide 9039, virtually any individual he perceived as a threat was either killed, arrested into slavery, or were exiled. During this period, Vulren took several incredibly young assistants from each Tribe; some were of royal lineage while others were simple commonfolk. These assistants were widely accepted to simultaneously be a two-pronged effort to ensure his power with the assistants acting as both hostages to deter dissent and as proteges to carry out his political will.
With his political prisoners as a labor force, Vulren had the Zenith Ruins converted into a massive fortress of stone and metal. From the newly-christened Zenith Palace, Vulren ruled with anger and paranoia, guarded by fiercely loyal soldiers of the Sun Tribe and surrounded by individuals who shared his political alignment. In Blue Skies 9039, he declared the religious fundamentalist movement known as the Cult of Iane and Lorthr'ten as the official state religion, whose tenets revolve around Elven purity and physically finding Lady Lorthr'ten's prison described in the myth The Genesis of the Elves and the Loss of Lady Lorthr'ten .
Venzana's mental state continued to deteriorate after the stillbirth of his and the Queen Consort's child in Bone's Chill 9039. After the arrest of Clan Vamenor's head of security, Tanyl Kelxidor, tensions rose even further, culminating in the flight of Queen Consort Xilmoira from the island in Dying Light 9039. After Lady Xilmoira's disappearance, Vulren retreated deeper from public life and increased security presence across the island as more political purges were pushed upon the Tribes.
Behind closed doors in Low Tide 9041, Vulren negotiated what he announced to be a mutually beneficial alliance with the Diocese of the Fen known as the Treaty of Haziondal. It was presented to the Tribal Elders and the public as an alliance that would protect the security of the island and to bring in a great deal of income. Additionally, Vulren managed to negotiate the religious freedom of the Elven people, a unique and unheard of concession by the Fen. Within days of the treaty's announcement, Fen forces arrived on the shores of the island, occupying large swaths of the territory where they established barracks, supply depots, and shipyards. From these new facilities, the Fen launched a massive invasion of mainland Plentius to conquer the Harwick Trade Company and the elusive local population.
Vulren allowed the Fen forces to co-mingle with and occupy local housing for their war effort. For many, this was the final offense which led many to begin active resistance against his rule. In this time, one of Vulren's assistants, a common orphan named Raleth Geleborn, is reported to have begun rallying many Tribes to begin an armed rebellion.
With their own personal keys to the palace, Geleborn led their forces to arrest Vulren. However, upon entering the palace, Venzana was nowhere to be found. An island-wide manhunt was conducted for nearly a month, but it was determined that the king, his Fen functionaries, and his most loyal guards had fled via some unknown means. After his flight, reports have indicated that Geleborn has torn down long-standing social structures of the Tribes and is setting about building a new way of life for all Elves. Information in and out the island is now scant as the Fen have blockaded the island.
Whispers of sightings of Venzana have been reported as late as Dying Light 9047 in northern Pillarin, but none have been confirmed.
Early Life
In the traditional birthplace of Sun Tribe's nobility, the Zenith Ruins, Lady Gorga Venzana gave birth to a son whom she named Vulren. This event was celebrated widely as he was born under the extremely good auspice of a crystal-clear breaking of dawn, with the first beam of the sun striking his brow at the moment of his birth. At the time, society at large viewed this as a sign that he was to lead their people to a new and brighter future. The Venzana family lobbied heavily with the various tribes to secure the unanimous votes to preemptively elect Vulren to be next in line as King. This initiative lasted decades.Vulren grew up as a soft-spoken noble, attending prestigious private academies across the Tribes. Reign
Venzana is currently best-known for his disastrous fall from grace due to his intense paranoia and devastating alliance with the Diocese of the Fen in Low Tide 9041. The time leading up to his fall is characterized by a quick descent into paranoia, hatred, and religious fundamentalism punctuated with regular governmental and societal purges.During his comparatively short time as King of the Lorthr'ten Tribes, Venzana instituted extremely Pillarinian laws upon his people. Expulsion and Exile
In Harvest 9047, while a majority of the Fen forces were deployed on training exercises or deployed to Plentius, the Rebellion against Venzana's government openly revealed themselves. Calling themselves the Kalitronii, the rebels were led by the young Raleth Geleborn who possessed a strategic genius beyond their years. After a three-pronged offensive by heavily-armed rebels out of all three major cities of the island, the Fen and Sun Tribe Loyalist forces were pushed into the deepest heart of the Thicket. Here, Geleborn set the forest ablaze after intentionally irrigating water out of the forest for months to artificially create drought conditions. The dense nature of the Thicket resulted in a blaze that was so intense that it made the air unbreathable within 60 miles of the fire for an entire week. The forces were obliterated, leaving Vulren defenseless in the Zenith Palace. With their own personal keys to the palace, Geleborn led their forces to arrest Vulren. However, upon entering the palace, Venzana was nowhere to be found.
