Solvyod (sɔlvjɔd)

Sacred Site in the Dragonspine Mountains:

In some estimations Solvyod is perhaps the most important region in all of Dhaoshee. As such it is a neutral space; welcoming of all. Sacred sites for most of the religions of the world are found throughout. Powerful sources of magical, primal energies are common in Solvyod. The region is reputed to be full of numerous portals, thinnies, and toxic, but potent, fumes.   Solvyod is the name of the region, its primary village, and the mountains in which it resides. Located on the western side of Dhaoshee, at the northern end of the Dragon's Spine, and terminating at the ocean, Solvyod is a seismically active and highly volcanic region. It is also a sacred site. Most significant religions of the known world have at least a shrine in its vicinity; temples crowd its foothills. It is reputed to have numerous thinnies and tears that lead into the folds of the Rift. Its forests are dense and mystical; its peaks are treacherous and strewn with the remains of the unworthy. Pilgrimages to its numerous sites are common and occur almost daily such is the variety and number of cults and religious movements that are tied to Solvyod.

Demographics

45% ethnic Daoshi; 15% Qh'énnish; 10% naga; 17% Svor; 13% various races, tribes from throughout the known world.

Government

Ostensibly, the Solvyodin are governed by the far off oligarchs of the Dhaōvsk in Slōenn.   In practice, all of the various shrines, temples, schools, and sites are autonomous.

Industry & Trade

Penitent monks and holy men beg for alms. Minor hedge mages offer their trade for pittances.   Major faiths have temples scattered across Solvyod. Most magical academies have branches or outposts on Solvyod (particularly in the Burning).

Districts

The Solvyod region is divided into approximately 8 tiers as they ascend the mountain.
  1. The foothills: sacred waterfall basins, forest shrines, and sacred groves.
2. First tier of the ascent is the flat plateau overlooking the vast Dhaoshee plain. Mostly barren rock and scree.
3. The Solvyod Circle: a surprisingly fertile glade in a bowl of stone walls. Anceint standing stones form a circle around a central dais. It has existed since before living memory. It features a sacred well.
4. The Forking Path: a number of disparate and increasingly precarious mountain passes branch off from here. The first minor shrines and penitents are found here.
5. The Eastern Plateau: monasteries and temples overlooking Dhaoshee.
6. The Cloud Plateau: much higher than any other flattened regions on Solvyod, this area is rocky and if not covered in snow, it is invariably blanketed in dense fog. It is often a site of suicides and/or accidental falls.
7. Vearing off deep into the mountain is the Burning an area of volcanic activity, caves, hot springs and acrid fissures at higher altitude give off constant smoke and clouds. Ascending further, lava and magma vents.
8. The Peaks of Solvyod: five distinct peaks each flanked by shrines and sacred sites.
