Suns Holytide
The desert is harsh, the Hazfeni people must work hard to survive. Nonetheless it is understood by the wise Burgeonend of the Hazfen Empire that some day, are just too damn hot. It is hereby decreed that should a Convex Asteroid amplify the light and/or heat in a city, it shall take the day for a Suns Holytide. The holy festivals are ordained by all that believe in the Burgeonend, accept blessings of The Hourglass, and know the deserts true light. May the dawn rise brighter because of this.
History
Early in the Hazfen Empire's history, great labor was required to build the empire beyond the sealed city of Ampoule. From slave labor, to great magical rituals, great effort expanded the empire down the Hazfen River. But there the efforts stopped. Winds and sand ground at those who worked far from the river, the sun-parched them and slowed their work. Burgeonend god leaders knew to push them farther would only build dissent and not honor their ancestors.
When a Convex Asteroid fell upon the southern city of Selam. with it's great light, it drove the temperature and brightness high enough to melt on slave who was standing near a great hourglass statue.
The city was saved by a quick ritual from the local Burgeonend officials, but hundreds were killed on the outskirts of town, thousands nearly cooked to death.
While most Convex Asteroid falls aren't as extreme, especially nearer the Hazfen River, this event concerned the Burgeonend.
After a meeting was taken the next day they petitioned to watch for the asteroids, and call of the day's work should one again light the city grounds. Selam's idea carried quickly throughout the empire, luckily before more Convex Asteroid's heated anymore cities.
It has now been three hundred years since this tradition has started and nearly five hundred instances of the festival have independantly occurred throughout the empire.
Execution
Upon prediction, sighting or experiencing of a Convex Asteroid's asteroid amplifying the heat of a region, Burgeonend officials will declare the holiday and encourage people to rest and enjoy the day. Quickly after this many Hazfeni will gather inside, in bodies of water, and erect shelters throughout the streets to cover them.
This will effectively cause many streets to suddenly become shaded tunnels, transparent cloth is often hung to let light through and tint it as well.
It is said no sane Hazfeni will run on this day so life will slow down. Wagons and animals are put away for people to walk. Many businesses close, except for a few taverns looking for the sudden crowds pocket change.
