Rose Evans (a.k.a. Rose Dursley)
Sweet Rose had no memory of her life at the poor mew in Sailortown. Having lived in luxury, her every whim answered by servants and her adoring parents and aunt, Rose could have easily found herself with the same mean-mannerism as her brother. However, seeing her modest, quiet, shy cousin Harry grow up alongside her and maintain a kind heart kept her modest as well, reminding her always how easily that could have been her. She'd been told as a small child that she resembled her late Aunt Lily, Harry's mother, and ever since, she felt a deep kinship to her similarly green-eyed cousin. Unlike her family, Rose was always kind to Harry, protecting him when she could and attempting to integrate him into the family despite their disapproval.
Rose was born a muggle. However, Lily's magic, which was gifted to Harry upon her death to try to save him from Voldemort, overflowed into her due to the bond between the cousins. The continual exposure to a constantly overflowing magic source eventually caused her to develop her own powers, though unstable. As Harry had also inherited his father's magic and had been born with his own powerful magic, Rose eventually became the full heir to Lily's powers, giving her enough magic to be a witch (PS Chap 5).
Rose never approve of the bullying her family committed against Harry and acted out accidentally when the cruelty became violent. The first time was when she was only six years old and released a boa constrictor upon her brother Dudley (PS - Chap 2). The second was when she blew up her Aunt Marge when she was twelve (PS - Chap 3).
Rose tried to save Harry from her family when Marge crossed the line and forced him to wear girls' clothes, but she was locked in her room. She valued her cousin over her immediate family and broke out to save him, escaping 4 Privet Drive with him and forsaking her Dursley family and name. Unlike the rest of the Dursleys, Rose was able to read some of the letters that arrive for Harry due to her own magical abilities. (PS Chap 5).
