Region - The Wild Abyss
Once a lucious jungle filled with life, the last 300 years of demon activity pouring in from the Abyss in retaliation for the warlocks taking sides with the devils in the Blood War. Unlike the devils pf Baator, demons from the Abyss are willing to sacrifice thousands of themselves just to get a few dozen onto the material plane. Roaming groups of Blood Hunters track down these demons and send them back to the Abyss, always with extreme measures.
Only one city lies within this region, The Black Spire, home of the warlocks and blood hunters, along with their devil companions. Travel along the roads is dangerous, but not much more so than other regions as the blood hunters tend to keep the roads clear to allow trade to and from Black Spire.
Geography
The Wild Abyss is split into 4 regions, each nicknamed by the blood hunters that spend their lives patrolling them.
- The Decaying Jungle - What remains of the jungles that once filled this entire region as part of Akilum's Nest. Most trees and foliage are covered in mold and moss, and fungal spores fill the air. Blood hunters typically have mutagens to help them avoid the worst of these spores, though treatment is usually still necessary back at Black Spire if extensive time is spent away from the roads. Deep in this rotting jungle, rarely seen demons are still thought to dwell. There are some elavation changes throughout the area, though mostly it is a set elevation.
Some areas are also plagued by massive sink holes and crevices. Many groups of blood hunters are sent to these sink holes to explore them and ensure no demons are using them to grow in number. - Desolate Plains - This area was absolutely decimated by the wars with demon invaders. Craters dot the landscape, and massive pointed rock formations are seen for miles. A relatively small area of mountains dot the southeast section of the area where Black Spire once had a mine for dwarvenstone. This mine was abandoned after a massive incursion of demons wiped out all of the miners and the blood hunters sealed the mine with alchemical bombs.
- Lava Lake - An area that was once completely under the control of demons, but has since been purged of most of the menace. A large citadel was built here by the demons, but the last scouting party there found it abandoned. The region is still very dangerous as the Abyssal corruption of the demons that once controlled the area has pervaded the local wildlife, leaving powerful monstrosities behind. Even passing through this area is dangerous, to the blood hunters and devils built a large raised bridge to help avoid the local wildlife.
- The Lost Swamp - The Abyssal demons mostly avoiding this location, though the exact reason is unknown. This area is filled with muck and wetlands, and the local wildlife is also quite aggressive. Massive glowing plants can be seen for miles, and tall moss covered trees dot the landscape as well.
