2024/03/20: Defending Zyth Part 3 Report

General Summary

Buzz, Knight, Kal'vus, Terana, Zaran   The party is continuing to build their food truck and gather information.   Trip notes:
  • Need to get maps for the route
  • Figure out the rules of the territories we have to go through
  • Trip will probably be 12-14 hours
  • Will have to cross Lachian Mountains (some dragon and fey territory, may need to bribe with food). Passing through places with a vampire, an evil count, maybe some sketchy military/research installations, an enclave of elves and fairies who should maybe be avoided, a cadre of black magic users, a small circle of angels, a group of gargoyles who nominally have their own government but are sort of considered bandits, lots of other things. Many groups and subgroups. And there are big areas that are just question marks.

  • Paid to get into the local library, which is run by a wizard. It's mostly magic books but has general stuff too.   When some of the party members went into the library, met young wizardess who was teaching Vancian magic to a bunch of young wizard candidates. She helped to find things.   Convoy stop in the south of the city. Joining a convoy (and paying bribes and so forth) is a safe way to get places. It's how most people move between cities. Very dangerous outside cities. Flying things are especially closely watched, because they're very dangerous. You either get a license from the FAA (which basically means joining the military, though they'll take pretty much anybody), or you're probably going to get jumped by licensed dragons. There's a military base to the south of the city where licenses could be acquired.   "Fire Razzer" 4th level spell. Throws a bunch of little firebolts at somebody. Offered by the wizardess in response to Zaran showing her Light Grenade. Wizardess is only just starting to get 4th-level spells.   Apparently Vancian magic is getting rare in Halloran because most people are lazy and use other magic rather than going through all that book-learning.   Apparently the members of Zyth were a successful adventuring party before becoming a band.   Went to magazine place to get current popular information on Zyth and anything else of importance for the trip. Bought a very thick fan-guide to Zyth and some models of military vehicles to give to Buzz and Terana.   Knight, Zaran, and Kal'vus headed back to the junkyard and found that Buzz and Terana had built a whole engineering bay and were putting the van together at a rapid pace. They were being assisted by the 501st (Buzz's crew of 10 or so Trade Federation battle droids), and Terana on her own was as productive as 10 people. They were debating the use of weird materials, including magically generated coral as hard as brass and metals made out of different kinds of light.   The party headed south to visit the military base and caravan stop. It was beginning to get dark. The military base has a 20+ foot wall surrounding it. A couple of mecha. Various soldiers, plus some soldiers in ~15 foot tall power armor. The caravan stop is inside the base.   Had some nice banter with the guards checking IDs. The guards were very impressed by the party and didn't seem to have any problems letting the party get IDs.   There's a mind-reading crab in charge of HR. Anielsen. (Sometimes simply referred to as "The Crab". He takes great pride in that.) British accent.   You especially want to avoid Gary, a.k.a. Garileth, the Dark Lord of Perdition. He's a demon lord who's a bit "persnickety" and is especially enthusiastic about shooting down trespassers.   Tegreus (varied last name) is some sort of strange spirit, not-alive, type thing. He operates as a sort of mercenary, but he's very inconsistent as to what he does and why. He's the number one most creepy, scary thing the crab has seen. Number two is the demon lord down to the south. The crab refused to mention her name. She's generally associated with necromancy of the darkest varieties. Knight is number three.   IDs and licenses acquired, the party went back to finish the food truck and choose menu items.   Matching faces to names for Zyth:
  • Allae Nas: The cute one with the black and purple color scheme, sassy sarcastic, lots of stripes, little demon horns, caster of black magic, considers herself a potential dark lord but is currently just a demon lord. One of her pet names is "demon lord" in quotes, which she gets teased about. Singing with a side of dancing. Has had a number of "problems" with PR, because demon and has said some unacceptable things. The "bad girl" of the group. Very popular among the demon demographic, along with quite a few of the more aggressive races. Quite possibly the best dancer in the group as far as getting her groove on. Not the most acrobatic dancer, definitely not the fastest. A little on the clumsy side.
  • June: The purple princess amethyst angel. Literally a celestial being come down to earth to help people. A literal wizard, an enchantress by trade. Also something of a magical girl, which is something akin to being a warlock. Pretty good singer, dancer, and overall entertainer. Pretty good at making the jokes and being little miss popularity. Really good at making fun of people, you don't want to get into a social tiff with her. Think Wendy's Twitter account. Despite being very popular and she can be really nice, she can also be reaaaaally mean to people, particularly in online internet forums. She was the most popular entertainer before she joined the group. She may actually be a princess of a celestial realm. She doesn't need the money, she's doing it because it needs to be done. Tends to give weird, extravagant gifts to her fellow girls, which doesn't always work out as planned.
  • Tir Oba: Belongs to a race of beastmen who are all temple guardians and warriors. Race of warrior monks who are trained from birth to beat people up. She's a liongirl. The most combat-oriented of the group. Her race tends to be very athletic; a basic member of the species is considered to be on par with an ogre or minor demon. Their frontline guys and warrior monks are absolutely terrifying. Her people guard this very paradise-like nature preserve on the other side of the planet. Tir Oba has gone against most of her people's thing by going into entertaining, which is funny because she has combat chops even by her people's standards. She can jump 50 feet in a go. She's not the best dancer, but boy is she athletic. Almost more like a monk from a very strong and fast race. In addition to wandering around and trying to help out the military outside the borders of her clan, she's sort of considered the heart of the group. Both incredibly vicious and strangely innocent. Debatably the number 2 combatant out of the whole group, only beat out by Roen.
  • Oracle: The exact opposite in terms of looking and being innocent. Also from a tribe of "warriors", though they sound mroe like a group of hitmen, assassins, and saboteurs. Basically think special forces meet ninjas. Sneaking around and sniping people. She's the bunny girl. She doesn't show a lot of signs of melee ability but she's great at running away, and oh boy is she good at traps. She joined the group because she started getting oddly popular because of some video evidence of her shenanigans blowing up bad organizations across the planet. Comedic timing plus combat abilities. Pretty okay with a sniper rifle. Pretty good at dancing, given that she isn't a born dancer and it isn't her primary thing. She's wildly popular. Very funny, great at timing. Has made some meme dances. Mostly based across the world in a different direction from the lioness. Equivalent of the Alps. White bunny, tends to wear all white. (It's caused some controversy because it's hard to tell if she's wearing clothes.)
  • Una. Weird metacelestial dryad from another plane of existence. Came here to save the world, something about healing it. Branched out her singing from her main thing. The "mother" of the group. Very calm and collected. Serene. Mostly known for martial arts. Very Chuck Norris, but does have some legitimate ability. Arguably the most acrobatic of the group, but doesn't have the raw strength and endurance of the lion girl, though the two have been known to do jumping contests. Largely the least active of the girls, since she spends a lot of time meditating in her tree and casting spells and such. Apparently the tree acts as a sort of teleport ward that prevents invaders from just teleporting in on top of the cities. Big part of the planet's defenses. As the tree grows it will hopefully clear out the various rifts everywhere. Has a degree in philosophy, mathematics, physics... Debatably the smartest one of the group unless you're talking explosives (in which case Oracle wins) or you just need to crunch numbers (in which case the android wins). She's not the only one who's working on the tree project. Not bound to the tree, or it's bound to the universe and thus so is she. Does support singing and dancing for the group. She encourages the others to perform more, but doesn't perform as much herself. She shows up more with the other girls than by herself. Overall as an entertainer she's probably the least successful, she's mostly sort of interesting and less selling out auditoriums.
  • Roen. The military poster-girl. Android built for battle. After she was no longer top-of-the-line, the military decided that since she was sort of cute they could let her try being an idol, and she was wildly successful. The stoic of the group. Amazing endurance feats. Incredibly complicated schematics, lots of exotic materials. Very high stats. Since she's been such a good fundraiser, she's been refurbished a few times, mostly just getting more human-looking with each iteration. Has apparently developed a literal soul. Is the best bet for having actual bard levels: Her singing has actually encouraged the troops mid-battle multiple times. She's generally seen as pretty innocent, since she's been in the military literally her entire life. Can keep up with the dryad on philosophy. "The innocent, thought-provoking one." Has done a bunch of test-fights against all the other girls. For the most part the other girls haven't been able to hurt her much. Closest to actually making a dent was Allae Nas. Also notable for wielding a variety of weapons, everything from a giant railgun to a sword 6 meters long. The sword has become sort of a meme. Pictures of her holding out the sword and the entire rest of the team standing on it.
  • In descending order of height: Roen, Una, Tir Oba, June-Oracle, Allae Nas. ~6' to around 4'11".   They tend to arrange themselves by color while performing. Black, grey, and white, then purple, green, orange.   Most of the group's concerts aren't done in person. They only appear in person together maybe once or twice a year.

    Notes

Engines in this world might run on magic pellet fuel (for the magic engines), combustion, or a weird combination of the two.   Light grenade radius is 180 yards. The light tends to go around corners and through walls. No MR, no save. 1d6 damage to most, leveld6 vs those vulnerable to it. 3-second fuse.   The military apparently has Gundam-style mecha. A bit more grey. ~ 50 feet tall.   Gary is well thought of by people. Considered pretty level-headed, even if people would prefer to send him fan mail from a distance. The demon lord lady down to the south, in contrast, is something of the black sheep of the demon lord family.
