2024/04/03: Defending Zyth Part 5 Report
General Summary
Buzz, Knight, Kal'vus, Terana, Zaran
Last session left off with a minotaur invasion arriving through portals in front of the caravan. It's late morning. Apparently the invading faction is the Atarik Empire. They're fairly tough, they like melee, and they like to eat sapient species. The adventurers were advised to go weapons free. They were also told not to leave any friendly corpses: If they get eaten, there's no resurrecting the victim. Don't take them lightly.
The party buffed up and climbed aboard an invisible Zaran. Jvalos came along. The caravan vehicle headed back in the other direction. By the time the party had assembled and got a look at the army, the minotaurs had gotten organized and already started stripping trees and building a camp. Only one portal was still open, only about 20 feet wide but some 500 feet tall.
Amidst the army, the party spotted one sulking minotaur some 80 feet tall, surrounded by spellcasters. There were also some 200 minotaurs running off toward the caravan in loose skirmishing formation. The party decided to intercept the pursuit group first and see how well they stacked up.
The pursuit group took a large magical aerial assault without flinching, only accelerating their sprint.
(Lots of fighting. Terana and Jvalos killed a teleporting boss minotaur armed with maiming knives. Kal'vus got downed, but Zaran said 10 second rule and got him back up. Then the whole invasion site got bombarded by cruise missiles and then triple-magi-nuked. The army died, but evidence suggests one powerful minotaur survived and left back through the portal.)
Garileth, the Dark Lord of Perdition (a.k.a. Gary) showed up to talk to the caravan master and debrief the adventurers. Gary looks like a man in full power armor like our heroes have seen before on this planet, but with a skull painted on his helmet. Under the helmet, he looks aggressively unremarkable, with a face best described as "friendly bank manager". His expression tells a different story. He "looks like he gives approximately negative 2000 fucks."
The authorities were surprised that some of the minotaur corpses killed in melee were still present. Most of the time, they said, the corpses vanish shortly after death. The minotaurs evidently have some form of immortality. They found the limits of that this time, though: Terana had weapons that could grant them true death.
The party was contracted to search the area for loot and anything else of interest. It would delay them by a couple of days, but it would be beneficial for the locals and would also get the party loot.
