Ila'Ra

Ila'Ra is the seond eldest of the koroua according to the shared beliefs of the hakanu, spiritual consort of Na'Rua. Ila'Ra is associated with the the suns, the yellow Ra'Kohai and the smaller red Ra'Weru, his name meaning 'Grandfather Sun' or 'Revered Lord of the Great Light'.

Hakanu creation stories speak of him coming to the eternal night of Na'Rua and piercing her with his light, creating sacred Okaluan, the fiery heart within it and the seas surrounding it, these personified by the three koroua, Na'Anu'ko, Ila'Makau and Ila'Kana, respectively. Afterwards he remained to oversee their creations and to watch the borders beyond Na'Rua's night borders, eternal guardian of both Okaluan and the spiritual realm of Utulhuanu

Worship

Rituals devoted to Ila'Ra take place among the Talani'i at special times of year, during the day. These times are the solstices of each of the suns as well as those rare times when Ra'Kohai eclipses Ra'Weru, a time that is seen as dangerous, when the borderlands between local reality and the wild chaos beyond it are weakened to the intrusions of evil Outsiders, the Hatana'i.

Ila'Ra is called upon by the tukuoro only during these important yearly ceremonies and in times of great need. He grants powers to those few powerful tukuoro who can commune with him and allows them control over light, fire, gravity and special abilities of farsight.
