Ucuriaztl
The Red Fist, Lord of Retribution
Ucuriaztl is a controversial teotl of the Calmaxtec people. His worship began during the darkest days of the Calmaxtec, when they were enslaved by the tecuhtli. He is a teotl of war, retribution and vengeance. He demands strength from his followers and the blood of those who would seek to dominate or control them. He is worshipped both by the downtrodden who refuse to submit to masters and authority as well as the powerful, who believe that they, being the strong, have the natural right of rulership.
His worship has waxed and wained through the centuries, becoming strongest during times of great desperation and great anger. Some have associated him with the red sun Bal, known to the Calmaxtec as Chilmaoli, the Red Fist. In modern times, his followers are most numerous among the Calmaxtec surviving in the sprawling slums of the large Kalmasan cities, especially Solkar, where the presence of the Chicahuacohtli is strongest.
