On the Foundation of Rhye

A conversation concerning the creation of Rhye by King Mercury:     Gressan, Court of thr Captain, Liason between the World Serpent Guild and King Havok: “The beginning is I suppose the existence of King Mercury. God found in him a powerful ambition, and values and passions in keeping with his own - knowledge, literature, art. In giving this person power, he would build a kingdom that pleased God.   So he took a large and generous reserve of the power he has, and placed it at the bidding of Mercury. This is what we call the mantle of magic - the ability to shape and control this magical pool.   King Mercury, as you have no doubt seen, created a perfect kingdom. Landscapes and creatures of wonder and fantasy to inspire and impress a people who seek art and knowledge. Everything made of this pool of magic. Thus, a completely links ecosystem was created - and it was called the perfect kingdom.”   On the Order of Creation: "The endless ocean was always here. So, the start was the formation of the land - the seven pointed star, forming the seven points and the seven seas. Next, came plants and animals of the land, then of the sea.
King Mercury then created The Capital, and spent a long time here. The four courts were created about a year later, first the Court of May, then Duceria, then Deacon, and finally Taylor. Although, at that point there weren't the Princes. There was a long period called The King's Boredom. Due to the number of people, places, and creatures, the kingdom became a bit of a mess. So in the sixth year the courts of Rhye were formed - each led by one of King Mercury's friends. It was their role to gather like minded elves and creatures together, so that each court has its own culture. This allowed beauty to overtake chaos, and ended the stagnant King's Boredom."
On the Vision of King Mercury: *The smartly dressed elf pauses for a moment, considering how to communicate something which all Rhye’s are taught at an early age to one unfamiliar with their culture.*   “In short, King Mercury desired a place of pure enjoyment. A limitless paradise where all could part-take in what they wished to partake. In his mind, enjoyment is made up of meeting basic needs with non-basic luxuries, self-expression through any media, exposure to the creations of others, leisure time for activities, and finally what I believe his majesty would have simply referred to as ‘parties’.   This vision covered the landscape of Rhye and the creatures who reside here, including the weather and the plants, the buildings and other great locations, the elves themselves and their talents, the culture of the elves, and the communities they formed.   The continent was created, the mighty seven-pointed star and the seven seas between the points which holds a huge variety of biomes, geographical structures, and climates. Designed to inspire, soothe, and to be appreciated, all in the name of providing enjoyment to the lives of the elves here. The animals and plants here are beautiful, unique, interesting, and, in many cases, tasty. They enrich lives by providing services, trade goods, and companionship. You will also find many of them are able to take care of themselves, without burdening the elves. King Mercury built many landmarks that are still wonders of the land today. The huge Ornict Tree, The Forest of Pines, the Stadia Plaza, the Henge, even this very palace. They may simply be beautiful to behold, or provide wonders to our citizens, the festival square for example hosts some of the best communal displays of art and culture across the land, and the henge is a source of many fairy tales as people sit and try to understand the messages its stones communicate.   And of course, the elves. They were made with huge potential for creativity. You won’t find a race of better artists, story tellers, sculptors, musicians, and knowledge tenders. The culture King Mercury created fosters that creativity, giving them the peace, space, and time to invest in their talents, rather than do the grunt work that many other races seem to be limited by.   The communities gather elves with either similar or complementary interests and talents. The four courts are the greatest of these communities, the Court of Winter, ruled by Prince Aurelia, the Court of Stories, ruled by Prince Jade, the Court of Knowledge, ruled by the Captain, and the Court of Nature, ruled by Hunter. But even within these courts smaller groups form. December’s Underground in The Court of Aurelia for example gathers those whose art is driven by their emotions.   Together, the life, infrastructure, and culture of the land was designed to fufill King Mercury’s dream that all elves should indulge in luxuries and creature and share beautiful art.”
