The secrets of Beetlemancy, Exo will occasionally reveal, he learnt from none other than Granny Gardenbeetle herself. his great grandparents were important people in Sanctuary at some point, though he doesn't know how. They made a bargain for their personal power, but Granny took her's inheriting their offspring for a hundred years. He was the third generation born in the darkness under the hand of Granny. Exo was the last, he was born under Granny's possession and was her student until the very end of bargain. The debt paid, Granny sent Exo to his freedom, and eventually he found Sanctuary.
He doesn't know who he would have been if he wasn't promised to the hag. He isn't even sure how to find out. He's never had a formal education. But he has a way with invertebrates that borders between talent and familiarity.

It is not so much that he doesn't take care of himself. It is that he's always crawling with bugs that are taking care of things for him. Mites scurry across his skin, but seem to exfoliate as they go. Flies cling to him and fan him when he sweats, and centipedes whisper in his ears.
