Myconid Fields

One of the local denizens to find their way into Sanctuary are the myconids. Not many of them, they tend to keep to themselves. But a small group of them have found that they are uniquely capable of tilling the ground here and making it produce fresh grown things. Just the sort of thing a place like Sanctuary is desperate for with their cramped population.   These myconids work the ground wordlessly, they have no mouths and utter no speech. But they sell food and drink to the people. Despite living in a world with no light, they are able to provide plenty. Not enough for the whole city, but enough to contribute. All they ask in return are fish. Freshly caught, or days and even weeks old.   The fish are given to their Dire Mole Rats, who burrow and tunnel under their farm, hiding away the rotting fish beneath the ground where the fungal colonies can best make use of them. For such a small footprint of a farm, this is how they are able to produce so much. They aren’t just growing things on the surface here, they are growing things in the dirt, to depths unknown. It is only the surface where the shoots and bulbs of edible mushrooms pop out, but the farm descends hundreds of feet down.   In addition to having various fungal foods available the farms have their own beverages too.

Elemental Sugar

Trade Good

Uncommon

History doesn’t recall this being available prior to the Convergence. Since that time places once attuned to the plane of Earth have grown rimes of glistening white. Easily overlooked, most assume it to be salt. Closer inspection will reveal its saccharine nature. Elemental sugar can be collected by delicately using Mason’s Tools (Dex) - DC 15. Success yields one cup of Elemental Sugar. A given source has 1d4 cups worth of sugar available.   An excellent ingredient in many sorts of foods. When used as a component in a meal, it can have an additional effect. Foods made with Elemental Sugar and a DC 21 Cook’s Utensils (Str) do not need to be preserved, they never go bad. Additionally, consuming something cooked with Elemental Sugar grants you a connection to the ground, you have advantage on Athletics and Acrobatics checks to climb or stay affixed to stone. This functions for one hour after having the last bite of the meal.

The farm is not free of its own troubles. A recurring pest problem is a constant source of work for the farmers here. But their trouble can be your boon as they have little critters that need a home.

Lesser of two Weevils

Generic Variant

Common

The fungus farmers at Myconid Fields do have a small pest problem. Adorable weevils that like to worm their way into the stalks and munch away at the nutritious mushroom caps from the inside. It is a constant struggle to keep them in check and when they are captured it pains the kind Myconids to end them. Some destruction is necessary with such a pest, and the strongest is always sacrificed and fed to the Dire Mole Rats with their dinner. But the smaller of every pair found is instead locked inside of a small glass bauble. This lesser of two Weevils makes for a fine companion and pet.

It will happily live out its life inside of the glass bauble and needs only be offered a chunk of fungus, plant, or mold based food once a month. It will happily encourage its owner by doing little tricks and backflips. Particularly when they make a decision to do something good, or at the very least less evil.
