A society cannot be maintained with such a density of population and resources without an outlet for aggression and the baser instincts of violence. This is where The PIT comes in. Since the early days of Sanctuary violence for entertainment has been a part of the city, but it really took off when the PIT was constructed. People gather to witness gladiatorial matches between fighters of all variety, and with monsters and demons. Some summoned from places beyond, others captured and bought by the PIT management.
Gambling is allowed and encouraged here, bookies can be found who will take your bets for or against the gladiators.
