Che, Grand Duchy of

Once the easternmost province of the Yvalian Empire, Che was able to use its distance and relative autonomy to declare its independence in 1403 DR. Striking out from its fortress city of Ushath, the tiny Duchy managed to somehow resist the might of the Empire, though certain scholars indicate that it may simply not have been worth the effort the Immortal Empress would spend reconquering it.   Che is largely isolationist, but does support the Free Cities Accord through trade. Although still at war with the empire, no battle has been fought in over a human generation.

Culture

Che is a highly militarized and highly isolationist state. Its external politics tend to define other states as threats that seek to undermine the rule of the Grand Duke.

History

The state was founded in 1403 when then General Aylandis Che declared his fortress city of Ushath free of Yvalian rule and proclaimed himself Grand Duke. Moonpriestess Lethirea Shadespear proclaimed the new state blessed by Lyndranel, granting it a legitimacy that, coupled with their relative isolation from the Imperial capital, lead to other near by city states to join under Che's banner. First of these was Melran which joined in 1415, the much smaller cities of Erineregwende and Dolutheinenat would join in the following decade.

Sects

Officially the followers of Lyndranel in Che are branded heretics from by the greater Yvalian comunity. Changes within doctrine are relatively few, but tend to emphasize the more defensive and protective aspects of the night goddess.
