Saeez
Overview
Saeez is a mostly-hospitable world with atmosphere and temperatures in the right ranges for human comfort. Its permanent population is rather low for a habitable world, but the official census only counts permanent residents. There are a large number of off-world visitors, part-time residents, and inhabitants of the Kyra System at large.History
During the Silence, the space navies of Pan abandoned their duties and fled with military hardware, creating warbands which lurked in the dark places of the Kyra System. Over time, the planet Saeez was settled by these elements, who came to enjoy a hedonistic lifestyle regulated by strength of arms and military might. The concentration of technology and resources allowed the planet to retain a level of technological development high above its neighbor.Biosphere
The biosphere of Saeez is "Hybrid," meaning there is a mixture of plants and animals compatible with human life--often descendants of adapted Earth life--and ones not biologically compatible. Such creatures often secrete toxic compounds deadly to humans, or provide zero nutrient value when consumed. Some of the native fauna of Saeez are large and very dangerous, an attractive combination for big game hunters from across the sector. Several Warbands operate safari resorts and hunting guide services.Culture
Saeez has a reputation as a pleasure world, where clients can go for unregulated and unobserved experiences. This may take the form of drugs, carnal pleasures, unregulated big game hunting, and other recreation. Obviously there are many dark aspects to such a place. It may seem as if there are no laws, but the Warbands do maintain a certain level of peace in order not to frighten away wealthy clients. The rulers of Saeez are the Warlords. While the original Warlords were ruthless and violent, taking what they wanted and fighting amongst themselves, the modern-day incarnation is much more peaceful. Only a handful of Warbands are actually warlike. The Warlords don't actually exercise much control over the populace, but once things get out of hand or threaten the status quo they intervene in a strong way. Bribery of government officials is considered standard in the course of business. The citizens of Saeez are largely divided into two classes: the rich and powerful, and the poor and powerless. It's a stark difference between the two, and largely based along the lines of who is part of which Warband. The only outsiders who visit Saeez are the merchants, who only really experience the wealthy starports, and rich holiday-makers, who stick to the security of the Warbands' resorts and pleasure clubs. Thus the plight of the underclass is mostly unknown in the wider sector. Local religious institutions try to help the needy, but, given the cultural pursuit of hedonism, very few find any measure of success.Notables
The Warlords of Saeez rule the planet. One, Rahim Tabari, carries a reputation for remaining aggressive and warlike. Even though the drug trade is not strictly illegal, many producers try to hide operations for security and deceptive reasons. Mikiya Takahashi is one such producer; his operation supplies combat stims to Tabari's Warband.Places
