Ayasata
The Ayasata are a subspecies of Ilyannoi, magically created creatures perfected by Ilya Shiroko. Their primary purpose is to assist with the work of the Bolugama priests in the Parishi temple. Liviu I Shiroko, also known as Liviu the Pious, created the first of them to help repair the temple in Ilya I's home town. Once the temple was restored, the creatures were instructed to remain and their obedience to the family has been retained in their genetics for centuries.
They are also meant to foster closer ties between the royal family and the priests of Bolugama outside of the Gandenye and Niuus. While the royals are not worshiped far outside of the capitol, the Ayasata keep the life creating power of the royal family at the forefront of religious services.
Through the day, they carry messages across the city, accompany priests on their duties, and, when not working, will play with any local children who come to the temple. Many of them enjoy being scratched at the base of their tail.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Generally between 0.5 and 1 meter in length, the Ayasata resemble winged ferrets. They have grey or white fur, with patterns of spots generally seen on their heads and tails. Four toes with short claws sprout from each of their four limbs, which have two knee joints and allow for increased movement. They have large eyes, usually black or dark brown. Each wing has five 'toes' with a leathery membrane between them that is used for lift. They glide more often than actively flying in order to save strength.
Growth Rate & Stages
Each Ayasata can live for 3-5 years. They are fully mature after six months and can continue to reproduce until death. Litters have between 2 and 6 offspring, with each litter appearing after a three month gestational period. Female Ayasata can have two litters per year at maximum, although they are kept to only one per year or every other year to keep from overpopulating the temple.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Their night vision is exceptional and, unlike many other Ilyannoi, have been imbued with small amounts of light essence. The Ayasata use this to make navigation in the dark easier and to signal to their masters. Primarily it is a communication tool, with patterns of light emissions used to delivery messages between Ayasata and the priests who are taught to 'speak' their language.
Instinctually, they know when a member of the royal family is close due to the tie between their genetic marker and the family's. As such, they are able to warn the priests when a royal is approaching the town. They are very affectionate with the descendants of their creator.

Conservation Status
As they are a sub-class of the Ilyannoi, they are considered national symbols and are thus highly protected. Their work around the temple has also made them religious symbols, particularly to the very devout followers of Bolugama and those who worship the Shiroko Dynasty
