G'tanta, the Mounted Great Sword of Patron Daemons

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Hunger of Ghatanothoa

Ghatanothoa was the 1st being to be imprisoned in the G'tanta blade and is the basis of its massive power and its curse. The upside of this is that any beings killed with the weapon will have the lump sum of their total power added to the weapon, which can then be utilized by the wielder. The downside is that the hunger will eventually cause one to feed Ghatanothoa's hunger forever, driving them insane. So while it is a blade that can massively multiply your base power by a magnitude of that of a Deathless being, the strings attached are usually enough to turn anyone away.
The weapon draws no distinction between friend and foe, and once a being is killed by the blade of G'tanta, they are forever trapped inside the blade, and their power is forfeit. It is also worth noting that all beings killed do not reside in the blade-sphere forever, they will eventually be consumed and killed by Ghatanothoa himself, which is why the weapon will forever lust for its next meal.

Aspect of Ghatanothoa

I'm stumped on how to describe the creature I saw today. I was terrified at the sight of it because it was unlike anything I had ever seen before. It was gigantic, but it appeared to have no genuine structure. It squirmed and curved in manners that had neither rhyme nor reason, and I could scarcely make out the layout of its body.   My heart started to race as I got closer to the beast, and I felt like I was going to die. The creature's evilness became increasingly apparent to me as I got closer. I had never seen anything like it before.   When I tried to strike the beast with my sword, it felt like hitting smoke. The creature was unharmed as my blade passed through its body. I started to feel like I was losing my mind as a result, and this only served to exacerbate my sense of panic.   I could sense the creature's amusement at my weak attempts to harm it, and it appeared to be playing with me. I began to hear whispering voices in my mind and became increasingly paranoid, convinced that the creature was somehow invading my thoughts.   It was then that I understood that the monster was an actual danger, but, a mental one too. It looked like it was trying to make me crazy just by being there. My thoughts were consumed with terror and despair as I fell to my knees.   I can't remember how long I was lost in my own thoughts there, but when I finally came to, the creature was gone. I was all by myself in that strange world, terrified and unsure of what had happened.   I don't know if I'll ever get over this experience or if I'll be haunted by the memory of that horrible creature for the rest of my life. I only know that I must leave this location and never return for fear of encountering it once more.

Continued use of the G'tanta Mounted Great Sword will eventually allow the wielder to access a new physical and mental form impressed upon their very SOUL by Ghatanothoa himself. They take on aspects of his appearance that can greatly aid in physical matters, however, the more impressive attribute is the mental and physiological one. By invoking this Ghatanothoa Aspect, one can immediately have a profound and deeply disturbing effect on the mental mindscape of any who witness it. This effect can cause madness, mental instability, and extreme sadness to the point of non-operation on even a basic level. This effect can be altogether negated if an adversary is mentally resilient and possess strong resolve. However, embracing any amount of this aspect invites more corruption in the mind, not to mention the SOUL will forever be defiled by the stench of Ghatanothoa.

Manufacturing process

The blade G'tanta itself was forged by the Minebelly Co., under the directorship of Houmwihilda, commissioned by the Royal Lineage of Little Céliande. G'tanta is composed of many parts, but at its base, it contains a Yggdrasilian Timber base, which is what allows it to contain an infinite being such as Ghatanothoa. It was then blessed by an Archangel with extensive enchantments installed by Godwyn the All-Knowing, most notable among them being the implementation of the ᛏᚺᛖ ᚱᚢᚾᛖ ᛟᚠ ᛗᛖᚾᛞᛁᛜ (The Rune of Mending). Finally, it was kissed by the Bifrost and named G'tanta.

History

Ghatanothoa, the Thing on the Mount, was one of the Cthulhi, the four deities bore from the Archon Cthulhu and the Old Goddess of Monsters, Idh-Yaa. The 5th offspring of Idh-Yaa was a slave race, Xothians, the Star Spawn of Cthulhu. A faction of these Star Spawns was enslaved to Ghatanothoa, dubbed the Ghatanothoan Star Spawn. After the death of Idh-Yaa by the hands of Hasadiah, the Second Name of God, the Cthulhi were separated and the Star Spawn were divided up among them.
Ghatanothoa's slaves spent their lives sacrificing Realms and entire civilizations to him, to appease his ceaseless hunger, lest he rises and consumes them. And, for an age, it worked. Ghatanothoa maintained strict mental control over his Star Spawn who had a cultist adherence to his every command. But when the great and terrible war happened, his slaves could no longer maintain his hunger, and thus he consumed them. Still, it grew and he roamed like a ravenous animal, only in search of his next meal. His hunger led him to the realm Haltrheimr (Lame + Land) where the natives had long since been subjugated by Apostle On'Byrius of The Apostles of Iscariot and his forces, currently resisting an aggressive siege from The Order of the Dragon's Head.
On'Byrius was caught unawares by the arrival of such a being, and Ghatanothoa only sought his next meal. Ghatanothoa immobilized his prey with his immense presence, as he was not one who enjoyed the hunt, but rather the kill. He consumed the souls of the victims, he loved to feast off the swirling storm of emotions inside of beings, and he loved to devour the brain waves of intelligent creatures, though it brought him no closer to such a state. The Apostle Knights were the first to fall, with the infantry and the Slave Knights. Next were the native Haltrheimr folk and then the Aposlte himself, unable to escape or fight such a being. When the Dragon Knights penetrated the Realm's energy shield, only death awaited them. Ghatanothoa turned his hungry gaze on them but was eventually met by Sir Edouard Celiandet V, Prince of Little Céliande and son of Ywain, the Knight of the Lion. He wounded Ghatanothoa and chased it across the Realms for 17 years, until they reached the Realm Flárgarðr (False + Dwelling), now known as PEAKE. Sir Edouard cornered Ghatanothoa and forced him to submit, imprisoning the deity within a Great Sword not only capable of withstanding his power but weaponizing it for the wielder: G'tanta.
The sword G'tanta was wielded by Sir Edouard V until his death during the great war, wherein he left it to the care of his daughter Edelgard Celiandet, daughter of one of the few Haltrheimr Folks who survived both On'Byrius and Ghatanothoa. Lady Edelgard was knighted by her grandfather Lord Ywain and took command of her father's company to continue his crusade for the honor of House Celiandet and the glory of Little Céliande. Most notably, she was among the many Knights present when the True Xothians killed the Khaos Daemon Prince Sedh't, driving G'tanta through his skull, adding his might to the sword that constantly hungers for more power. By the end of the war, Duke Seitaro Celiandet of the Lineage of Edouard wielded G'tanta, though it had consumed him and riven him to madness. He and his fallen legion wandered the Realms, looking for more souls and power to feed the blade, unable to retain their own sanity. Sir Seitaro and his legion were laid to rest by King Gawain Pendragon, Lord of the Stars who had the weapon confined in Camelot, much to the ire of House Celiandet who felt Gawain had stolen their family heirloom.
During the Unmei Period, The Holy Order captured Camelot and killed Gawain, when they ransacked the treasury and armory, G'tanta was taken by the Angel Adonis who also fell victim to Ghatanothoa's bottomless hunger. This sparked another small civil war within the ranks of the Angels until Adonis was felled by King Medraut Pendragon, Courage of a Lion, who delivered the weapon to the Xothians, The Star Spawn Of Cthulhu, under the direct command of Lord Cephalon of House Poseidon. They were off the blood of Idh-Yaa, but more importantly, the mental corruption could not touch them (SEE Xothians, the Star Spawn of Cthulhu).

Significance

  • There are only four Cthulhi; Ghatanothoa, the Thing on the Mount, Ythogtha, the Thing in the Pit, Zoth-Ommog, the Thing in the Depths, and Cthylla, the Thing up High. Ythogtha was mutilated and shaped into arms by the Ythogthan Star Spawn who eventually became the Xothians. Zoth-Ommog and his Star Spawn sing the Song of the Deep eternally, forever wishing for the return of their Archon father. Cthylla is currently MIA, though suspected to be dead. Only Ghatanothoa remains in any functional capacity, albeit in this blade.
