The Confederation of Wallachia

Structure

The Confederation of Wallachia is a nation of confederated lords called Boyars and domains named after the area's leading city. Once a kingdom with its own structure, the confederation formed with a less centralized figure. Instead it is ruled by a Doma, or parliament of Boyars who decide large foreign policy decisions and disputes between lords and deal directly with foreign powers and the Church of the Morning Lord which is another pillar of Wallachian governance. They also control some amount of domestic law more in the adoption of resolutions such as the banning of slavery over serfdom.   The Doma is headed by The First Boyar, an elected, by the Doma boyars to act as the discussion setter and leader in all matters put forth by the Doma, they also act as t he Grand Boyar of Ozerud, the capital, to some extent, officially acting as the Chamberlain "for the King's Return." However the majority of power does not sit with the Doma or First Boyar, but with the specific Grand Boyars that rule their Domains. The Grand Boyars one for each domain listed in the territories, rules with nearly absolute authority over the boyars below him in a classic Feudal set up, with lessor Boyars ruling tracks of land and commanding knights called Magnars who fight wars, defend the land and manage the serfs. These Grand Boyars even have power over peace and war, though often called by the Doma, Grand Boyars may choose to fight or not. They also control full judicial power and most legislative authority.   However beyond those lords there is also the Church which handles almost all infrastructural upkeep, leading most forms of education baring the Sorcerer's School in Roshtsck-Skonye. They also command their own national army in the form of paladin orders to the Morning Lord. The Church acts as the major unifying force and religious law dominates most day to day matters.

History

Wallachia was formed first as a series of petty kingdoms formed by the Human Wallock Tribes migrating from the sea. These Wallocks brought with them the church of the Morning Lord and settle the valley, becoming a major rival regionally with the local Elves, and Goathlanders, Edralock, and Undalock Humans tribes as well as native Goliaths . Eventually integrating the Goliaths and becoming integrated into the first Edren Empire  After the fall of the first Edren Empire as the second dealt with the aftermath a popular imperial general and the provincial governor, King Barov, declared independence and lead the Boyars, traditional higher families, in a revolt that won hard fought independence. The kingdom short lived as it was saw huge expansion. Conquering both The Cursed Swamp and The Republic of Dobruja, as well as taking on the mythical country of Barovia, though the history there is question.   However as rapid a rise lead to as rapidly a fall. the Von Zarovich line that ruled barovia did not last one generation longer before being wiped out in a plot. The insuing war shattered the kingdom, many cities and families were lost. Dobruja broke away and the cursed swamps became wild lands once again. Barovia became lost to mists and mountains and what lords and boyars, fearing the wrath of a the Edren empire, agreed to end the infighting by forming the modern confederation, electing no king, in respect of the Von Zarovich line, but instead a first boyar to lead the confederation.    Peace would always be shakey, as land disputes with Dobruja and inner boyar conflicts. However Wallachia found some success in its intensely firtle fields, lasting strong into the common era. Recently the Confederation has entered a civil war called Tourney War due to a succession and murder crisis. This war threatens to finally break the confederation in thirds, pitting pro-Edren Reds, Pro-Dobruja Golds, and the pro-Wallachian Blues.

Military

Every Boyar has their own household of knights and sworn swords of which they are expected to send to their Grand Boyars in times of war, and are able and expected to levy serfs and peasants into a fighting force. Each Grand Boyar is expected to defend the confederation's interests and are honor bound to do so, however there is technically nothing forcing Grand Boyars to actually go to war outside social expectation.   Supplementing the traditional Feudal army are a number of knights orders and organizations usually serving the Church of the Morning Lord. Though not technically connected to the state they often defend it as the only nation that follows the Church exclusively. These orders form the most elite forces in the Confederations and the backbone of their defense.

Foreign Relations

The modern Confederation of Wallachia has long kept a watchful peace with it's neighbors, happily selling its great exports of grains and goods while making sure to step on any aggressive moves in the region. Despite the stagnation Wallachia has been built under for the last thousand years it has remained a power player in the region.
