GR 10: Shadow of Toblack

Teroth Eamarilth called upon Marshal Reneslar’s help in investigating indications of large-scale military activity in and about the haunted fortress of Toblack, on the eastern end of the Midrun Sea. Boarding the Mirriling ship Guevrenna Astal with his former companion, the Wilderwolf brother Shoam, the ship sailed east in the Midrun Sea.   Along the way, they encountered the ghost-ship Trivec, and the spirit of Elicia (see GR 5: Betrayal at Sea). Making landfall on the Claimant Isles, they discovered a garrison of the Karshan military, using the islands as a cargo transport station to supply the fortress at Toblack.   OUTSIDE GAME-TIME: This game established the reason why southern Uruks were so prevalent among Karshan (Lurvite) forces. They had been hired in great number as mercenary units and brought through the gate to reinforce the Karshan army, under the control of the Witch Evanchoris.   MEMORABLE MOMENTS: This minor adventure introduced Toblack for the first time, and was the first time the idea of an ethereal “Gate” that existed between western and eastern lands was referenced (Toblack was later established concretely as the location of the gate Auvorené, which had been reopened in 3237 S.R.). The Karshan Captain Grashket was defeated by Reneslar in a rare bare-fisted battle. Grashket would later appear in Campaign 18 - the Gate of Auvorené.
