Shoam

Shoam is a member of the Wilderwolf Brotherhood, a communal order of Lurvite descent whose home is in the desert on the southern rim of the Horseplains, far to the southeast of the Great Kingdom. Like all of his order, Shoam is a "wilder" shape-changer, able to take on the form of animals. He is one among a very select group, referred to by the Order as the Varenatai. Each of these elite journeymen carries a Fire Gem (varena) which serves as a means of communication between them and the Fathers of the Order. Except for the Varenatai who travel to distant lands as emissaries of the Order, the Wilderwolf Brotherhood is quite reclusive and avoids all contact with outsiders.

Personal history

Late in the year 3235, Shoam met Lord Marshall Reneslar who was returning from the southern land of Sulmaré, where the Great Sword Elnar had been re-forged by the exiled Thurim master-smith, Dunzan Etherhammer. Having joined company in the horseplains of Suthra, Shoam served as escort and travelling companion to Lord Reneslar on the Marshall's journey home to the Greenwood. Early the next year, Shoam accompanied Reneslar again (along with Grenton , Vitrem , Teroth Eamarilth, Jovian, and Valgrath) on the successful Second Quest against the Thrau.   In the years that followed, Shoam spent much time travelling Vainite and Karshan lands, using the Greenwood Marshall's Tower as his base of operations. In the second month of 3238, Reneslar and Shoam were sent at the request of Teroth Eamarilth and the Fae, to reconnoiter Karshan activities in the eastern waters of the Midrun Sea. Aboard the Mirriling ship Geuvrena Astal, under the command of Captain Torrasa Rehtenni, they discovered a large movement of troops and ships near the haunted fortress of Toblack, which stands at the ancient Gate of Aauverené. It appeared that the Karshan Empire (which, at the time, was allied with the Witch Evanchoris) had many troops stationed at Toblack. The reason for this could not be ascertained, but obviously only something of great significance could lead the Karshans to challenge the dark and evil curse of Toblack, which had been abandoned for a thousand years.   After this, Shoam spent more time further investigating the mystery of Toblack. Dwelling for a while in Naodrun city of Donlind, he journied through the towns and country of Karsha, listening and watching, reporting back to the Wilderwolf fathers. Troop movements in the direction of the fortress had been steadily increasing, even though the shipment of supplies has not. He deduced that the regular shipment of food-stores sent to Toblack could not support a tenth of the troops that have been sent to the fortress over the previous two years. With the coming of Spring, 3240 SR, Shoam felt an overwhelming compulsion to head south to Galdea.
