Armed Forces of the Stygian Republic
The Armed Forces of the Stygian Republic is also known as the People's Liberation Army of Styx.
It is made up of soldiers who are either conscripted as part of the mandatory military service which lasts for 20 years for each able citizen or 30 years as the pathway to legal citizenship in some cases or career soldiers who stayed in the armed forces after their mandatory service ended.
The Armed Forces are made up of regiments each of which is lead by a Military Officer who is paired with a Military Commissar meant to keep the ethics of the group in check.
Generals oversee and guide the actions of the various regiments and each regiment is made up of up to 100 soldiers.
There are many regiments which tend to fall into one of multiple categories: the most common type of regiment are infantry soldiers which are typically armed with a main arm like a halberd or spear as well as a side arm like maces, axes or sabers as well as a Percussion Cap Firearm.
The next most common type of regiment is assault soldiers which are generally armed with heavy melee weapons meant for close combat rather than keeping enemy forces at range.
Such regiments are generally only sent into already constrained and closed quarters when open field warfare has ceased.
Cavalry regiments exist within the Armed Forces.
Most cavalry soldiers are mounted on horses with elite troops riding on prized War Spiders.
Cavalrist are typically armed with Rifles and Pistols.
There are also specialized regiments like the Morai Snipers who wield Ancient Artifact weaponry capable of killing at distances that the common and contemporary firearms of Styx cannot reach.
The Morai are legendary within the popular culture of Styx and are said to be able to vinish without trace making many suspect them to be skilled sorcerers as well as warriors.
Another common type of regiment are artillery and siege regiments which wield heavy siege weaponry like cannons and Spell-Channeling weaponry mounted on Siege War Spiders that dwarf even the common war spiders that cavalrywomen ride on.
Such War Spiders are most often controlled by Vermin-minders, magick wielders who mind-bond with the arachnids to control them.
Such regiments have never been utilized in a real war but train rigoriously for the case of a need for deployment to defend the interests of the People's Republic of Styx both at home and beyond.
The City of Styx is fortified heavily with field artillery regiments stationed on countless elevated positions with semi-mobile firing positions of cannons, bombards and Foxfear Gunner nests as well as Spell-Channeling mounts.
These serve as preliminary protections of the city against possible aggression from its neighbors.
Magick wielders are used to supplement each type of regiment and a considerable amount of spellcasting citizens are part of the Armed Forces.
The most famous members of the Armed Forces are the Martial Saints of Everyn's Order , an attachment to the force made up of elite troops trained by the Church of Serkatha.
All Martial Saints considered to be at least equal in rank with military officers and most are legendary warriors as well as talented divine spellcasters.
In terms of armor most soldiers within the Armed Forces go into battle in lightweight metal or leather armor while elite troops are either equipped with lighter armor of Korvantei leather or spidersilk which is equal in protection value to metal or heavier metal armors that exceed at defense but can hinder agility.
