Mertvinik
Mertvinik a Holiday celebrated in the People's Republic of Styx.
It is a celebration of the deceased that is held anually at the end of Lastfall of Autumn.
Mertvinik is the celebration of Saint Mortaen the Deathbringer, a minor saint and a dual-natured psychopomp that certain academics at the Ars Academia Ars Magicka et Mundana have been reminded to not describe as being pre-Serkathan in origin at threat of hereditary exclusion and execution.
The festivities feature a march where the citizens of Styx carry candles from their houses to the Osthalt Necropolis at dusk, wearing black gowns and intricately carved masks carved from the Bright wood of deadwillow trees found in the Leshivoi Forest.
Such masks tend to be family heirlooms and are passed on to coming generations carrying the spirit of a family's dead onward.
Since the Great Revolution and the granting of equal rights to the undead of Styx Mertvinik has also taken on a different meaning: to those who are undying and yet animated the day is a celebration of their value as citizens of Styx during which they show themselves proudly and openly, such celebrations are viewed negatively by more traditionalist Sumraki-Ashaī who view them as appropriating the honorable ways of the Church of Serkatha.
